The Cub' Provides AC and DC Power, Recharges Using Solar Energy
SIMSBURY, CT— September 18, 2002 — Solar Dynamics, Inc., a manufacturer of portable solar power systems, announced today the availability of The Cub', a lightweight, portable power source that provides DC and AC electricity for small electronic devices and recharges itself through a 5 watt thin film solar module.
"The Cub' is a convenient, clean and safe power source for mobile people who want power on the go and freedom from electrical outlets and costly battery backups," said Andrew Marsh, President of Solar Dynamics.
Portable and Powerful
The Cub' is a complete personal portable power system housed within a heavy duty, weather resistant pack. The system weighs 13 pounds and includes carrying handles as well as backpack straps that can be used to carry the unit when exposing the solar module for recharging.
"With a simple lift of a weather-resistant neoprene flap, power is easily accessible from The Cub' at all times, whether the unit is recharging or in ready mode," added Marsh.
The Cub' DC version provides 3, 6, 9 and 12 volts of DC. The Cub' AC/DC version provides both DC power and up to 75 watts of AC power. Both DC and AC/DC versions come with DC power socket adapters and an energy efficient task/flash light. An 8 watt waterproof fluorescent light, wall charger and 12 volt DC charger to charge from a car cigarette lighter outlet are optional accessories sold separately.
The Cub' can run a range of electronic devices, including cell phones, laptop computers, televisions, GPS systems, radios and portable lights.
"When you purchase The Cub' you have everything you need for on-the-go power," added Marsh. "The Cub' is ideal for mobile people such as campers, business and personal travelers and recreation enthusiasts who are on the go and need remote power time and again."
Clean, Silent, Safe
The Cub' is emission and noise-free, utilizing the sun and a solar module to recharge its fully contained 7.5 amp-hour battery. The battery is protected against overcharging and over discharging by an electronic controller.
"The Cub' adds a significant amount to the run times of electronic devices over standard batteries," said Marsh. "Add to that the fact that you can recharge The Cub' again and again using renewable solar power and you end up with value from every angle."
