Xantrex GT 5.0 solar inverter hits the mark on reducing residential solar energy costs

Xantrex Technology Inc. today announced the launch of the 5.0 kilowatt (kW) Xantrex GT 5.0 Grid Tie Solar Inverter, providing the market with the highest efficiency in its power range.

VANCOUVER, B.C., February 21, 2007 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today announced the launch of the 5.0 kilowatt (kW) Xantrex GT 5.0 Grid Tie Solar Inverter, providing the market with the highest efficiency in its power range.

The Xantrex GT 5.0 Grid Tie Solar Inverter has a peak efficiency rating of 96.5%, with a 95.5% rating on the California Energy Commission (CEC) list. High efficiency and an industry-leading, maximum power point tracker to maximize energy harvest, combined with high reliability and power density, provides the homeowner with the best price-performance in the market.

With the addition of the GT 5.0, the Xantrex GT Series now offers customers a complete range of single-phase, grid-tie solar inverters with 2.5 kW, 3.0 kW, 3.3 kW, 3.8 kW and 5.0 kW models. All of the GT Series inverters, including the GT 5.0, are compact in size and have identical dimensions, allowing ease of mounting to create larger systems in a clean, space-saving installation.

Designed to work with the large variety of solar energy modules available in the market, the GT 5.0 makes system sizing easier with its wide input voltage range of 230 to 600 volts DC (Vdc). The inverter also features passive cooling and silent operation without the need for a cooling fan, increasing reliability by eliminating fan maintenance and replacement issues.

"It's an exciting time for Xantrex as we continue to build on the success of our single-phase GT Series," said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. "Our customers have been asking for a 5.0 kW model with all of the features they need. With its high efficiency, fewer PV modules are required to create the same amount of renewable energy produced by less efficient inverters. This is a significant benefit to the system owner, as PV modules represent the largest investment required in a solar energy system."

Compact and weighing only 58 pounds, the Xantrex GT 5.0 weighs less than half as much as competitive inverters and can be easily installed by one person. The unique design saves labor costs for system owners and installers with its integrated DC/AC disconnect, included mounting bracket, and built-in LCD display. The inverter also features a split-chassis design so the inverter can be separated from the wiring box should the inverter need to be replaced.

Xantrex GT Series inverters include a standard 10-year warranty and meet the UL 1741 standard for safety of inverters, converters, and controllers for use in independent power systems. GT Series inverters are available to North American renewable energy dealers through Xantrex distributors. Consumers can purchase the product through their local Xantrex dealers. MSRP of the Xantrex GT 5.0 is US $3950.
