San Rafael Firm Excels in Design and Installation of Solar Photovoltaic Systems

June 7, 2007 (San Rafael, CA) Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced the Sustainable 6 award to SPG Solar of San Rafael for their work in the design and installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for homes, businesses, and large-scale commercial and government facilities. SPG Solar's President and CEO, Dan Thompson, accepted the award on the companies' behalf.

"SPG Solar is a true leader in utilizing our natural resources and making this state more self-sustainable," said Huffman. "The strides they have made in creating and maintaining an alternative energy source should be an example to all businesses."

SPG Solar was established in 2001 by Dan Thompson, a 20-year union electrician who was aware of industry trends and the soaring cost of electricity. Since its founding, SPG Solar has designed and installed over 900 solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and has expanded to 5 locations throughout California, with over 100 employees. The company is still expanding rapidly and expects continued success in the growth and development of its business and employees.

In November of 2006, SPG Solar received the Marin Economic Commission's Award of Excellence in Business Achievement, after being recognized for its outstanding accomplishments in the areas of entrepreneurial success, job creation, business expansion, new product creation, and exemplary 'best practices' which enhance the viability of the business and the local economy.

SPG's goal is to build the highest-performing solar PV systems with the highest return on investment. The result is clean, reliable electricity that reduces or eliminates customers' electric utility costs.

SPG's recent projects include solar installations for the Throckmorton Ridge Fire Station in Mill Valley, CA, Sonoma County Water Agency in Santa Rosa, CA, Grgich Hills Estate and Winery in Rutherford, CA and Monterey Ridge Elementary School in San Diego, CA.

The Sustainable 6 award recognizes green businesses in the 6th Assembly District that incorporate sustainable practices in the way they operate. A certificate was awarded to the SPG Solar on Friday, June 1st.
