EnerWorks supplies solar collectors for one of Illinois' largest solar thermal systems

One of the largest solar thermal systems in Illinois is now installed at William Fremd High School (Fremd) in Palatine. EnerWorks Inc., a leading North American developer and manufacturer of solar thermal systems, supplied the 100 solar collectors installed on the school's roof.

The collectors and their accompanying energy transfer units will be the primary source of heating for Fremd's indoor swimming pool, providing economic savings, displacing the natural gas currently being used for pool heating, and offsetting emissions. The pool was originally built in the mid-70s.


Fremd is one of the largest high schools in the state, with close to 3,000 students attending grades 9 to 12. Designated a "Blue Ribbon" school by the U.S. Department of Education, it is considered one of the best in Illinois in terms of quality of academics and standardized test scores.

Leading the project is General Energy Corporation, consulting engineers who specialize in the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and security systems, with a particular focus on the implementation of energy cost reduction programs.
