Xantrex Technology Inc. announces the launch of its latest innovative product for the off-grid and backup power markets. The Xantrex Trace Series Inverter/Charger is a durable, reliable, and economical power conversion solution for renewable energy and backup power applications.

VANCOUVER, B.C., May 5, 2008 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) announces the launch of its latest innovative product for the off-grid and backup power markets. The Xantrex Trace Series Inverter/Charger is a durable, reliable, and economical power conversion solution for renewable energy and backup power applications.

The new Trace Series Inverter/Charger provides dependable modified sine wave electricity for homes or businesses that do not have access to reliable utility power or that experience power outages. Xantrex inverters convert direct current (DC) power from battery storage into reliable alternating current (AC) electricity for use in the home or business.

The Xantrex Trace Series design is based on the successful and highly reliable Xantrex DR Series of inverter/chargers, which has been the product line of choice for system integrators in North America, Latin American, and Africa since 1996. Building on the success of the DR Series, the new Trace platform adds many improvements including better thermal performance, simplified user controls, corrosion resistant chassis and circuit boards, and higher surge capacity to start difficult loads. The Trace Series also has new power factor corrected (PFC) charging, and a sophisticated multi-stage battery charging algorithm, which reduces electrical draw and generator runtime when re-charging batteries. To provide system feedback, an enhanced digital display provides inverter output power in kilowatts (kW) and charge current in amps (A).

"A lot of research and planning went into the design of the new Trace Series," said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. "As the need for off-grid renewable energy and back-up power solutions continues to grow and change, Xantrex is doing its homework to ensure our products meet that need."

The Xantrex Trace Series Inverter/Charger will be on display in the Xantrex booth #1007/1008 at the Solar 2008 tradeshow, May 3 - 8, 2008 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego, California.
