San Jose, CA August 29, 2008- SunWize Systems, the installation business unit of SunWize Technologies, Inc., has launched educational and financial incentive initiatives to support the City of Palm Desert's landmark Energy Independence Program.

On July 21st, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill (AB) 811 which will allow California cities to offer low cost-loans for energy-related building improvements such as solar electric systems. The loans, funded through the formation of special assessment districts, would be paid back in annual increments as a supplemental tax assessment. The City of Palm Desert was instrumental in conceiving and passing the bill. AB 811 is the outgrowth of the city's vanguard effort to reduce energy use by 30 percent in 5 years. The Energy Independence Program administers the loans to home and business owners.

SunWize Systems is working to support Palm Desert's Energy Independence Program by offering a series of free educational seminars, featuring City of Palm Desert Energy Management Director, Pat Conlon. Residents will be able to obtain the details of the program, understand the significant financial benefits, and learn the fundamentals of solar electric systems. The two hour seminar will be offered at the new SunWize Systems regional office (34330 Gateway Drive, Suite 100, Palm Desert, CA) from 10AM to 12PM on the following Saturdays: September 13th, 20th, 27th, and October 4th.

In addition, SunWize Systems is offering a limited time Community Discount to the City of Palm Desert. Any residents buying a system before November 1st will receive a $250/kilowatt (AC) discount. This translates to a $1500-$2000 savings on a typical 6-8 kW desert home installation. The discount is available now and SunWize has already begun to offer homeowners assistance with their Energy Independence Program applications.

"We have known SunWize Systems for years and selected them to install the solar parking structures at Palm Village Apartments." states City of Palm Desert Energy Management Director, Pat Conlon "We are pleased that they are aiding our efforts and adding to the advantages of the Energy Independence Program."

"The City of Palm Desert has made a major breakthrough, enabling all property-owning residents and businesses, regardless of their financial situation and equity, to obtain a low-cost, long-term loan, as long as they are current on their taxes. In cases where energy usage is high, loan costs will be lower than the energy savings. Not only is the city meeting its goal of dramatically reducing energy usage, but it is actually improving the financial condition of its inhabitants and boosting the local economy," explains David Kaltsas, Executive Vice President of SunWize. "As the oldest and largest solar electric installer in Palm Desert, we are proud to support the city and its ground breaking Energy Independence Plan.
