AMSC TO HOST CONNECTING WITH THE WIND' EXHIBIT

What: American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, will host a "Connecting With the Wind'" exhibit at the AWEA Windpower 2009 Conference and Exhibition.

AMSC executives will be on hand to discuss the company's broad suite of offerings for the wind power market, including wind turbine designs and consulting services, wind turbine electrical components, wind farm voltage regulation systems for entire wind farms, and superconductor electricity pipelines for long-haul transmission of renewable power.

Exhibit Highlights:

Superconductor Electricity Pipelines: An optimal solution for long-haul transmission of renewable electricity. Placed underground in existing rights of way, these direct current (DC) superconductor power cable systems will spare America's vistas from unsightly overhead lines, significantly reduce right-of-way requirements, increase transmission efficiency and enhance the security of our electricity supply.
D-VAR® Solution: Offers a cost-effective way of stabilizing voltage levels by injecting dynamic reactive power (VARs) precisely where voltage problems can occur. Provides steady-state voltage regulation, power factor correction, and voltage ride-through capability for entire wind farms.
Wind Turbine Designs: AMSC Windtec' licenses designs for onshore and offshore wind turbines ranging in power from 750 kW to 10 MW for turbine manufacturers.
PowerModule' PM3000W: A fully programmable, flexible and modular power converter developed specifically for wind power applications.
Complete Electrical Systems and Core Electrical Components: Provide reliable, high-performance wind turbine operation by controlling power flows, regulating voltage and controlling the pitch of wind turbine blades to maximize efficiency.
Where: McCormick Place Convention Center located at 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, Illinois, Booth #3516.

When: May 4 - 7, 2009

Members of the media are encouraged to contact American Superconductor to obtain additional information on the company's technologies or to arrange an interview with a company executive during or following the show.
