VAILLANT® SOLAR SYSTEMS CREATES SOLAR QUIZ TO EDUCATE HOMEOWNERS ABOUT BENEFITS OF SOLAR THERMAL

The "Splash into Solar, California" quiz & giveaway was created to educate homeowners about the financial & environmental benefits of solar thermal systems. Plus, homeowners in California can enter to win a free solar water heater from Vaillant Solar Systems (valued at $8,000).

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Dec 11, 2009 - Vaillant® Solar Systems Inc, a leading solar thermal manufacturer, announced today the launch of the Splash into Solar, California quiz and giveaway. The goal of the solar quiz is to educate homeowners about the financial and environmental benefits of solar thermal systems and help people understand the difference between solar thermal and photovoltaic systems.

"Many people simply don't understand that solar creates other forms of energy than electricity," states Tara Heiser, director of marketing at Vaillant Solar Systems. "My goal is to educate and inspire homeowners about solar water heating. This fun solar quiz and giveaway is just one of the many tools that we have created to educate the market and inspire people to consider solar water heating."

The financial benefits of solar water heating are top of mind with most homeowners. According to the US Department of Energy, water heating accounts for approximately 40 percent of a home's total energy use. This can be slashed by up to 80% with a solar water heater, which would save a homeowner up to $520 annually.

Although energy rates are relatively low today, the US can expect an increase over the next several decades. Solar thermal systems enable homeowners to lock in their energy rates for the next 25 years or more. Coupled with a 30% federal tax credit and the many state and local incentives, this makes solar thermal a very affordable and cost effective investment.

For many, the environmental benefits are the driving force behind their decision to install a solar water heater. For example, an average solar thermal system will eliminate approximately 125,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the lifetime of the system. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, this is equivalent to removing 10.4 cars from the road, planting 1,454 seedling trees over ten years, or eliminating 2,362 propane tanks from home barbeques.

People are encouraged to test their solar smarts and learn more about the benefits of solar water heating at www.vaillantsolarsystems.com/splash. All California homeowners can enter to win a free Vaillant solar thermal system for their home (valued at $8,000). The solar water heating system includes two Vaillant auroTHERM® exclusive collectors, one Vaillant auroTANK 80 gallon solar tank, one Vaillant auroMATIC® solar control station, and a complete residential installation by a Vaillant-certified installer. The giveaway ends December 31, 2009.
