White Construction Inc. awarded 300 MW of Wind work with Horizon Wind Energy

White Construction Inc. has been selected by Horizon Wind Energy, owned by EDP Renewables, to construct 200 Megawatts (MW) of wind energy in White County, Indiana, and 100 MW in Kittitas County, Washington.

On Horizon's Meadow Lake Wind Farm, White will be constructing two phases. One phase will consist of 69 GE SLE 1.5 MW turbines, and the other phase will consist of 48 Suzlon S88 2.1 MW turbines. The work began in March 2010 and will be complete by October 2010. White's Meadow Lake work will bring an additional 200 MW of clean energy to the region.
On Horizon Wind Energy's Kittitas Valley Wind Farm, White Construction has been selected as the Civil Contractor and will be constructing 100 MW, consisting of 48 Suzlon S88 2.1 MW turbines. The work began on March 29, 2010 and will be complete in October 2010.
White Construction Inc. has been involved in the construction of more than 4,000 MW of wind across the U.S. and Canada. To date, White Construction Inc. has had the pleasure of working with Horizon Wind Energy on eight wind projects.

Kipp & Zonen - DustIQ the novel soiling monitoring solution for solar panels

Soiling of the panel glass is one of the major problems in the rapidly expanding solar energy market, with the attendant loss of efficiency and reduction in performance ratios. Now, there's a new, simple and very cost-effective alternative. Based on Kipp & Zonen's unique Optical Soiling Measurement (OSM) technology, DustIQ can be easily added to new or existing solar arrays and integrated into plant management systems. The unit is mounted to the frame of a PV panel and does not need sunlight to operate. It continuously measures the transmission loss through glass caused by soiling, so that the reduction in light reaching the solar cells can be calculated.
