Greenergy Solutions Lauds Entry of Foreign Investors under PPP in the Philippines

Briones said that the installation of MREFs in identified cities and provinces will not only solve the problems brought about by varied kinds of waste but also would generate electricity that will be sold to consumers as clean energy or as an alternative source of energy

Ruth P. Briones, the Chair of Greenergy Solutions and Lead Convenor of the Zero Waste Philippines' Project yesterday lauded the entry of foreign investors in the Philippines under the Public-Private Partnership Program (PPP) and at the same time hailed the supports it got from the Aquino government.

Greenergy Solutions has renewable energy (RE) projects in the pipeline for the next ten (10) years which include the deployment and operation of Material Resource and Energy Facilities (MREFs) also designated as Biomass and Energy From Waste (EFW) that will dispose and treat Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) being generated by towns and cities nationwide.

Briones said that the installation of MREFs in identified cities and provinces will not only solve the problems brought about by varied kinds of waste but also would generate electricity that will be sold to consumers as clean energy or as an alternative source of energy.

Also, Briones declared that Greenergy Solutions had signed agreements with Local Government Units (LGUs) nationwide and intends to established public-private partnership projects with Foreign financial equity partners.

It was further noted that under the Renewable Energy Law (Republic Act No.9513), fiscal and non-fiscal incentives are provided in order that investments in Renewable Energy projects would be viable and attract foreign investments. These incentives are also provided under the Foreign Investment Act which will consider renewable energy projects as "investment priority projects (IPPs).

With proven and patented clean technologies that are allowed under the Clean Air Act, Solid Waste Management Act and the Renewable Energy Law, the RE projects will provide potentially productive investment destination.

Greenergy Solutions is an international renewable energy project development company based in the Philippines that recently launched the Zero Waste Philippines' project which aims to revaluate, reduce, or eliminate, and recycle the volumes of varied waste nationwide. It is the intention of the revaluation scheme to utilize the varied kinds of waste into a potential source of Biomass and Energy from Waste (EFW).

The Philippines and its population of 94 million people faces a present and urgent need to address the current solid waste management situation that has now reach crisis proportion. Republic Act No. 9003, otherwise known as the Solid Waste Management Act, has ordered the closure of all landfills and dumpsites nationwide in 2008. The local government units (LGUs) that have responsibility to dispose of solid waste have no mechanism in place to provide adequate and environmentally safe disposal of an increasing supply of waste that now totals twelve (12) million tons annually.
