Announcements today by the Bligh Government on the Queensland Solar Bonus Scheme has been welcomed by the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia.

‘The Sustainable Energy Association of Australia (SEA) is an industry chamber supporting market-based solutions to grow sustainable energy,' says Prof. Ray Wills, SEA Chief Executive.

‘The certainty provided by consistent policy approaches using market mechanisms to stimulate the Queensland renewable energy industry is welcomed,' says Prof WIlls

SEA agrees with the comments of Energy and Water Utilities Minister Stephen Robertson in the Queensland Parliament today the scheme showed the Queensland Solar Bonus Scheme is making solar power more affordable and stimulating growth and jobs in the solar industry in Queensland.

'Certainty allows businesses to grow sustainably, to recruit and retain staff to undertake work, and for projects to proceed with confidence. Certainty is bankable and allows businesses to underwrite growth in their operations and will reduce funding costs arising from reduced loan risk, an outcome that will continue to bring down the cost of renewable energy projects in Queensland.'

SEA congratulates the Queensland Government for their leadership on solar energy for Queenslanders.

As the nation with the world's best renewable energy resources, all Australian Governments need to become even more ambitious in the support for renewable energy generation, and other Australian Governments would do well to look to the Queensland approach to policy for renewable energy.
