At the last summit we discussed the need for a new advocacy organization, narrowly focused (a) only on Ontario, and (b) only on PV - to build upon, and work alongside CanSIA, with its broad, nation-wide, all solar technologies, agenda.
Announcing the New Advocacy Organization: Solar Alliance of Ontario
We are happy to report that over the past few months, Solar Network worked with leaders in the industry to establish the Solar Alliance of Ontario (SAO) to be a broad-based group of industry leaders with a single, focused mission – "to advocate for the accelerated and stable growth of Ontario's PV market, furthering its leadership in this key sector of the new clean energy economy."
You may have seen Monday's Globe and Mail article on SAO and recent developments at CanSIA. If not, you can read the article by clicking here.
Solar Alliance of Ontario: Leadership
The Solar Alliance will be a strong, unified voice to government, government agencies, the broader energy business community, energy and economy experts, the media, NGOs and the general public - in Ontario. Its diverse board (still in development), up to a maximum of 30 members, is led by an Executive Committee consisting of six industry leaders:
• Kerry Adler, CEO, SkyPower Limited
• Ian Karleff, Managing Director, AS Solar -North America
• Kyle Rees, CEO, Solar Power Products
• Dave Rogers, CEO, AMP Solar Group
• Jacob Travis, Chairman, Solar Network International
• Christian Wentzel, CEO, Ontario Solar Provider
Towards a Policy Blueprint for Ontario's PV Market

Several SAO committees are being developed and we plan to publish a preliminary "Blueprint for Solar PV in Ontario" to inform government policy, just in time for CanSIA's Solar Canada 2011 on December 5-6. SAO's "blueprint" will be developed through stakeholder consultations, in stages, to earn the endorsement of a broad spectrum of experts, organizations, and businesses.
Key issues to be addressed in the blueprint will be the focus of the 3rd Ontario Solar Summit - "The Future of Solar in Ontario" on November 8th.
I hope you will not only join us on November 8, but become an active member of the Solar Alliance of Ontario. We are looking for leading companies that wish to be Founding Members, and for individual leaders to get involved and help us realize all of the potential Ontario has to be a global leader in Solar PV! If you have any questions or suggestions regarding SAO, please send me an email at jacob@solaralliance.ca.
