Wind Power in China: TÜV SÜD and CEPRI engage in strategic cooperation

The international service provider TÜV SÜD and the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) expressed their intention to cooperate at strategic level in the future. CEPRI is a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the operator of China's national electricity grid.

With a total installed capacity of 45,000 megawatts, China is one of the largest wind-power markets in the world. The installed capacity is expected to grow by a factor of ten by the year 2020. At the same time, China has moved up and become the world's leading manufacturer of wind turbines. As a research institute of SGCC, the operator of China's national electricity grid, CEPRI deals not only with wind power but with all types of energy from renewable sources and their integration into the supply grid. The institute supports the expansion of wind energy with scientific studies and technical services during the realization of specific projects.

TÜV SÜD is one of the world's leading providers of testing and certification services, with in-depth know-how and comprehensive experience in the energy sector and in energy from renewable sources. TÜV SÜD has been accredited by various organizations including the German Accreditation Body (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle, DAKKS) and the German Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH) for the testing and certification of wind turbines, wind farms and components for onshore and offshore wind power.

Following successful cooperation in first wind-power projects, CEPRI and TÜV SÜD decided to intensify their contact and enter into an agreement on strategic cooperation in the wind-power sector. The cooperation of the two partners will focus on prototype testing and certification, inspection and training. "This contract marks a further milestone in our wind-power activities. We hope that our cooperation with CEPR will contribute to the further development of the Chinese wind-power industry", said Wolfgang Hübl, Vice President TÜV SÜD China, when signing the contract.
