FUGRO HELPING TO FILL THE RENEWABLES KNOWLEDGE GAP

De-risking offshore renewable energy projects is a vital step towards delivering them safely, on time and on budget. With this in mind, Fugro has created a free one-day technical course for project developers and engineers, and turbine and cable installation contractors.

De-risking offshore renewable energy projects is a vital step towards delivering them safely, on time and on budget. With this in mind, Fugro has created a free one-day technical course for project developers and engineers, and turbine and cable installation contractors designed to demystify geotechnical and geo-environmental data. The next course in the series takes place on Thursday 3 May at Fugro's Wallingford offices in Oxfordshire with another scheduled for Aberdeen on 17 October 2012.

"Although our course has the rather intimidating title ‘An Introduction to the Challenges of Acquisition and Interpretation of Geological, Geotechnical and Geospatial Data for the Offshore Renewables Industry', it could just as well be called ‘Demystifying all things Geo' as that is exactly what it is designed to do," says Tony Hodgson, Global Business Development Manager for Fugro's umbrella renewable group, Fugro Renewable Services.

The free one-day course draws on nearly 50 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, those taking part will be provided with an introduction to the planning and implementation of a range of studies and surveys to de-risk projects as far as design, installation and performance of foundations and cables are concerned.

"Our delegates will leave with a step-by-step guide to the industry's best practice in researching, collecting, storing and maximising the use of the data relating to the seabed, sub-seabed and geo-environment," explains Tony Hodgson. "Knowledge is power, and what our delegates learn in this one day course will guide them towards optimised and cost-effective design solutions.

"During the day we will outline the process from desk study and conceptual site selection to data acquisition and data management, and then finally cover the design considerations associated with foundation selection. A visit to one of the world's most sophisticated soil testing laboratories will also be included. It will certainly be a day well spent!"

Further information is available from http://www.fugrorenewables.com/events/technical-course/ and places on this free course can be booked through l.read@fugro.co.uk.

Fugro will also be holding well established technical courses on Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Geophysics, and Onshore Cone Penetration Testing (both endorsed by the Geological Society) these will be taking place the day before and after the Renewables workshop.
