Second Annual GEA National Geothermal Summit to Bring Top Industry and Policy Leaders to Sacramento

Confirmed speakers include California State Senator Alex Padilla; JR Delarosa, Advisor to the Governor for Renewable Energy, Office of California Gov. Jerry Brown; and Karen Douglas, Commissioner of the California Energy Commission

Washington, D.C. (June 18, 2011) – Registration is now open for the GEA National Geothermal Summit to be held August 7-8 in Sacramento. Hosted by the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA), the Summit brings together policy leaders, utilities and industry professionals to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the geothermal industry at a time when all renewable technology sectors are striving for sustained growth in order to deal with the world's current energy crisis. The event will feature a full slate of keynotes, panels and plenary sessions, as well as the GEA Honors Awards Dinner that recognize the best in geothermal.

"California is the world leader in geothermal, but its grip on the top spot is tenuous. We hope that by engaging in a dialogue with state political leaders, utilities and others, we can build momentum for expanding geothermal power production in the California, as well as Nevada and other neighboring states. This GEA Summit will bring together all of the key stakeholders to work to build a roadmap for the region's future," said GEA Executive Director Karl Gawell. "California has 31 geothermal projects now under development that could almost double current geothermal production in the state, and there is substantial additional capacity in neighboring states. Geothermal is the largest renewable power producing technology in the state, and thousands of Megawatts more can be added to meet the states renewable power goals. If policies support this growth, it will mean economic growth, thousands of new jobs, a more reliable and cost-effective power system, and a cleaner environment in the state."

The event will feature speakers including California State Senator Alex Padilla; JR Delarosa, Advisor to the Governor for Renewable Energy, Office of California Gov. Jerry Brown; Karen Douglas, Commissioner of the California Energy Commission; Karen Edson, Vice-President, Policy and Client Services, Caiso; and John DiStasio, General Manager & CEO, SMUD. Industry leaders will include representatives from GeothermEx, Alta Rock Energy Inc., and Lockheed Martin. The event is made possible by Gold Level sponsor Stoel Rives and co-sponsors including the Geothermal Resources Council and UC Davis.

Topics for the Summit include geothermal and renewable energy outlooks for California and neighboring states, utility experience with geothermal power, reducing the risk for geothermal drilling and exploration, streamlining projects and permits, and improving incentives for geothermal power. An exhibit area will feature government, sponsor and industry tabletops.

On August 7, the GEA Honors will recognize the leading companies and personalities in geothermal. Awards categories include Technological Advancement, Environmental Stewardship, Economic Development and additional honors for Special Recognition. Winners from last year's inaugural awards ceremony include TAS Energy Inc., Ormat Technologies, Inc. and Energy Source LLC.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technology™, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
