Port Louis goes green with first 50 kWp PV site by SETL and The meeco Group's Joint Venture

SETL of Mauritius and the Swiss meeco Group about to reach megawatt installed capacity in Mauritius

The Municipality of Port Louis, capital of Mauritius, has recently confirmed its plan to turn Port Louis into a green city. Lord-mayor Mamad Kodabaccys made this new strategic direction clear during one of his recent speeches at the City Council Meeting.

In association with its partner in Mauritius, SOLAR-ERNTE-TECHNIK LTD (SETL), the Swiss-based meeco Group actively supports the achievement of this honourable and sustainable goal. A first 50 kWp solar photovoltaic system as now been successfully installed on the City Hall's rooftops, using some of the best components in the solar industry such as 150 Wp thin film CIS Solar Frontier modules in combination with SMA Sunny 7000 HV inverters and a supporting structure by Wrth Solar. Alone, this solar photovoltaic installation is expected to generate a minimum of 90000 kWh per year, which amounts to yearly savings of approximately 9.5 tons of CO2 emissions.

SETL and The meeco Group have already completed and connected several other solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to the grid and will continue to contribute to the green" development of the city of Port Louis as well as of the entire island. "Our local partners on Mauritius, the well established company SETL, contributes with its contacts and expertise to the development of our common projects", explains Dieter Trutschler, Sales Director of The meeco Group. "While we provide top-tier materials, supplies, layout services and technical advisory services, SETL assumes the local sales and manages the professional implementation of the local installations" adds Trutschler.

Roland Viard, off-grid Sales Manager for The meeco Group, comments on the Municipality project and the collaboration with SETL: "This project contributed not only to increasing the City Hall's installed PV capacity but it also clearly improved solar production values thanks to a technology shift, favouring thin film modules over mono crystalline ones".
