EVlink™ electric vehicle charging stations to help researchers measure energy demand in ground-breaking urban neighborhood

PALATINE, Ill. – Oct. 25, 2012 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced that Schneider Electric's EVlink™ Level 2 indoor electric vehicle (EV) charging station will be offered by Pecan Street Inc. to program participants as part of the organization's electric vehicle research program in Austin, Texas.

Started in 2008 to help spur smart grid and consumer electronic innovation in the U.S. and headquartered at The University of Texas at Austin, Pecan Street Inc. is conducting the most detailed consumer energy research in the country. The organization's demonstration project in Austin's Mueller neighborhood includes the deployment of select equipment, technology and information services, including the EVlink charging station to those who purchase EVs, to approximately 500 homeowners to demonstrate and test their impact on energy use.

"As energy demand continues to increase and consumers weigh the benefits of energy efficient electric vehicles, we see the build out of U.S. EV infrastructure as a critical next step for increased EV adoption," comments Mike Calise, director of electric vehicles, Power Business, Schneider Electric. "We are thrilled to offer our EVlink products to Pecan Street to help spur innovation."

Available to electric vehicle research program participants and installed by Pecan Street Inc., Schneider Electric's EVlink indoor charging station provides easy operation and universal EV compatibility, as well as unmatched safety and durability. Features include:

•Faster charging features: Charges approximately four times faster than a standard 110 volt home outlet. With a full 30 Amp Level 2 charging rate, EVlink is future proofed as owners charge almost two times faster than other 16 Amp Level 2 charging stations.

•Homeowner-friendly design: Sleek, space-saving design, LED charging indicator, and independent cord bracket for safe and convenient mounting options.

•Advanced safety features: Integral ground fault monitoring and protection capabilities including auto reset provides additional user safety from power outages and lost connectivity.

•Standards compliance: UL for US, cUL for Canada and NOM for Mexico listed and SAE J1772 compliance ensures universal compatibility with any electric vehicle entering the market today.

"Our success as a research organization will rely heavily on the collaboration of many stakeholders and experts working towards one goal," said Pecan Street Inc. executive director Brewster McCracken.

"Through the implementation of Schneider Electric's EVlink charging stations, we hope to learn more about and build smarter and cleaner energy services."
