VSHEW, IHK and Messe Husum stage energy storage forum

German and Danish experts present solutions for storing cold, heat, hydrogen and wind power

Husum, 08.03.2013 As part of the leading New Energy Husum trade fair, Messe Husum will be staging a storage forum in Husum on 22 March for regional energy suppliers and renewable energy industry specialists. The trade fair organisers are staging the five-hour event in association with the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) and the Schleswig-Holstein Energy and Water Resources Management Association (VSHEW). The number of places is limited, and the closing date for registrations is 18 March. Attendance of the forum is free for those who have registered.

Storage is the key to the energy transition

"The success of the energy transition is chiefly dependent on further development of storage technology", says Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress. "We are pleased that, along with our associates, we were able to put an interesting programme together in which experts from Germany and Denmark can explain the current state of a great variety of storage technologies, and future developments."

"The new storage technologies make it possible to adjust the imbalances between the generation and the use of renewably generated electricity", explains Dr Dieter Perdelwitz, managing director of VSHEW. "As power generation is becoming increasingly decentralised, this topic is gaining in importance for us as representatives of medium-sized municipal and communal utility companies."

Besides the VSHEW, other speakers on the energy transition in the heating sector at the forum will be from the fields of politics, business and science. They will also be presenting solutions for storing cold and hydrogen, as well as research projects and batteries as storage elements for wind farms. The event is being held in Seminar Room 2 of Husum's NordseeCongressCentrum (NCC) from 10:30 to 15:30. All lectures will be simultaneously translated from German into Danish.

About New Energy Husum

In recent years, New Energy Husum has established itself as one of the most important trade fairs for the renewable energy sector. Since 2002 it has served as a stage for decentralised energy generation using all kinds of renewable sources. Topics and techniques covered by the fair include small wind turbines (up to 100 kW), biogas, solid biomass (pellets, firewood and wood chips for heating systems), solar heating, photovoltaics, electric vehicles, near-surface geothermal energy, energy storage, energy-efficient building and mini CHPs. From 21 to 24 March 2013 experts and leading manufacturers will be meeting again in the North Frisian town of Husum to set the course for the innovations needed in what is a rapidly growing market.
