27 New Biomass to Energy Projects to be Presented at the International Biomass Conference & Expo

"Anyone who is working in or looking to work in the biomass industry should attend this year's biomass event to learn more about these fully commercialized projects"

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – (Mar. 13 2013) – Detailed information about 27 new biomass facilities recently completed or currently under construction will be presented by Biomass Magazine at the International Biomass Conference & Expo to be held in Minneapolis April 8-10.

The Biomass Construction Update is designed to illuminate the prominent biogas, pellet, biomass power and advanced biofuels plants actively under construction in North America. The presentation at the conference will offer relevant information on each project and highlight their recent accomplishments.

"We are very excited about the large number of new projects that are being built this year," says Tim Portz, Vice President of Content & Executive Editor at BBI International, the company that produces Biomass Magazine. "The International Biomass Conference & Expo is the perfect place to showcase the detailed information we have gathered about these projects."

Information on completed bioenergy plants built by Himark bioGas and Buena Vista Power will be presented. The Himark project, completed in December, is already supplying biogas to Western Plains Energy for use as process heat. Buena Vista reconfigured a coal plant to operate on biomass, and that project became fully operational in December.

One of the most significant projects to be discussed is the American Renewables-owned Gainesville Renewable Energy Center power plant in Gainesville, Fla. The 100-megawatt facility is one of two facilities of its size in the United States and is the largest contributor to the biomass power sector's strong growth with an anticipated 523 MW of capacity scheduled to come online by the end of this year.

Among pellet plants to be included in the presentation are Enviva and German Pellets, which are nearing completion on three, 500,000-metric-ton per-year plants that will add significant export capacity, with Europe being the likely final destination.

The biofuels industry waits in anticipation of the completion of a commercial scale cellulosic ethanol faciliity and this milestone is within a year of being realized. INEOS and Abengoa are on schedule to start producing in the first half of this year, adding 33 million gallons per year of cellulosic ethanol capacity, effectively quintupling cellulosic capacity in the U.S.

"Anyone who is working in or looking to work in the biomass industry should attend this year's biomass event to learn more about these fully commercialized projects," Portz says.
