New Energy Husum holds 3rd Science Slam

Creative short speeches on renewable energy topics requested

Husum, 16.12.2013. For the New Energy Slam on 21.03.2014, Messe Husum & Congress is calling on creative persons to give a live talk to the New Energy Husum audience about a topic they themselves have researched that has something to do with renewable energy, electric vehicles or the future of energy supply. Anybody interested in giving a talk should submit their subject to Messe Husum & Congress by 21.02.2014. "As part of New Energy Husum's peripheral programme, the Science Slam offers entertaining views of renewable energy. The speakers get a platform on which they can address both trade visitors and members of the public on their chosen topic", explains Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress.

The audience chooses the winner

Like at a poetry slam, the main idea behind a science slam is to entertain the audience. The ideal candidates would be professors, scientists, students, start-up entrepreneurs and creative types who wish to present their innovative ideas to the exhibition audience. Speakers have exactly ten minutes in which to put across their ideas, and they can use any props they require. After each talk, the audience will award them between one and ten points. So the winners, including the winner of the main prize, is decided by the audience alone.

Last year's winner, Benjamin Thaidigsmann from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg won with his talk on "Electrons, Holes and the Sun", and due to his excellent style and amusing presentation. "The New Energy Slam has been one of New Energy Husum's great attractions in the last two years", says Becker. "So at the third slam we are again looking forward to interesting talks with a lot of surprises." Admission to the science slam is free of charge.

About New Energy Husum

In recent years, New Energy Husum has established itself as one of the most important trade fairs in the renewable energy sector. Since 2002 it has served as the showcase for decentralised energy generation based on the use of all renewable energies. The topics and techniques include small wind turbines (up to 100 kW), biogas, solid biomass (pellets, firewood and wood chips for heating systems), solar heating, photovoltaics, electric vehicles, subsurface geothermal energy, energy storage, energy efficient building and mini-CHPs. From 20 to 23 March 2014 experts and leading manufacturers will be meeting in the North Frisian town of Husum to set the course for the innovation needed in a rapidly growing market.
