Germany: Logistics Company saves 3,500 € on electricity bill with Conergy PV Plant

Company covers 65% of its energy needs by solar installation on flat-roofed warehouse

Hamburg, 17 January 2014 – The logistics company Waldau Trans in Döbeln in Central Saxony in Germany will bank on self-consumption and independence from electricity from the grid with its 190 kilowatt Conergy solar power plant installed on the company's flat-roofed warehouse. The PV power plant was installed by Conergy's certified partner Mitteldeutsche Energiekonzepte KG (MdEk), headquartered in Leipzig, Germany.

3,500 € savings on electricity bill per year – 65% of energy needs covered by PV plant

Waldau Trans saves some 3,500 euros per year on its electricity bill – in addition to the income from the energy fed into the grid, savings will amount to around 70,000 euros in the next 20 years. The solar installation supplies the company's warehouse but also a neighboring private home. With a percentage of self-consumption of around 23%, Waldau covers up to 65% of its total energy needs with the Conergy power plant, the private home next door covers around one third of its electricity requirements.

LCOE of solar costs less than half as much as electricity from grid

"Middle-sized companies often face quite high costs for the electricity from the grid. For those, solar power plants are y clever alternative with high cost saving potential", said Stefan Balbierz, Managing Director of Conergy in Germany. "Depending on their energy rates with their utility, every kilowatt hour of solar power can be less than half the price of their electricity from the grid. Waldau, for instance, saves some 17 €-cents for every kilowatt hour they consume on site. This significantly reduces the company's operating costs."

The logistics company Waldau pays around 27 €-cents per kilowatt hour from the grid. The levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for solar is at 10 €-cents only for their new installation – this means that they save 17 €-cent per kilowatt hour.

Flat-roof construction supplies energy for 45 homes

The solar experts from Conergy partner Mitteldeutschen Energiekonzepte KG installed the approximately 740 Conergy modules of the "P-Series" on the 2,100 square meter rooftop. The installation is the premiere for the SolarFamulus Air East/West flat-roof mounting systems. The PV power plant will produce around 160,000 kilowatt hours of clean energy per year – enough to supply 45 households in the region. At the same time, the solar installation avoids approximately 140 tons of harmful CO2 emissions.
