SENER awarded Engineering Company of the Year in The European Energy Awards 2013

SENER received this award for innovative projects such as the Gemasolar solar thermal plant.

Abu Dhabi, January 20, 2014 – The engineering and technology group SENER has been awarded in The European Energy Awards 2013 as Engineering Company of the Year. The magazine has highlighted the spirit of innovation of this technology group, with more than 5,500 professionals across 50 offices globally, that "provides solutions and products that represent the very pinnacle of innovation across a range of sectors".

SENER received this award for innovative projects such as the Gemasolar solar thermal plant. Located in Seville, Spain, this is the first commercial central tower power plant with molten salt storage system in operation in the world and also the only solar plant capable to produce electricity round the clock. Last summer, Gemasolar achieved continuous production operating 24 hours per day for 36 consecutive days, which is a revolution in the renewable energy field. SENER designed the plant and supplied all its key technology elements, demonstrating a number of new SENER technology solutions for CSP: central tower receiver, new low-cost precise heliostats, high-temperature molten salt thermal storage, etc. In addition, SENER led the construction and start-up of this innovative facility that marked a milestone in the CSP sector.

Today, SENER has a recognised global position in its three areas of activity: Energy and Environment, Aeronautics and Engineering and Construction. In this last one –awarded by The European Energy Awards 2013- SENER has become a leading company in Power and Process, Aerospace, Infrastructures and Transport, and Marine projects.

In Power and Process, SENER extends its scope to the construction of sophisticated plants such as the combined cycle plants Norte in Mexico and Bicentenario in Argentina, the CSP units Gemasolar, Valle 1 and Valle 2 in Spain, the shipping terminals, storage facilities and regasification plants – Gate terminal (the Netherlands), Dunkirk (France) and Zeebrugge (Belgium); in Aerospace, SENER has supplied during more than 45 years equipment, systems integration and engineering services to the Space, Aeronautics and Vehicles and Defense international markets, being noteworthy its work for the Space sector, where it has delivered over 253 hardware modules for 59 satellites and vehicles of the US (NASA), European (ESA), Japanese (JAXA) and Russian (Roscosmos) Space Agencies, all without a single recorded failure; in Infrastructures and Transport, SENER's urban railway technologies have been applied in the metro systems of Barcelona, Madrid, Algiers, Bogota, Hanoi, Panama and São Paulo, or the light rail trains of Abu Dhabi and, finally, Porto, which was recently awarded the Veronica Rudge Green Prize by Harvard University; and, in the marine sector, SENER has developed the FORAN System, a CAD/CAM software for design and construction of ships is used by many shipyards around the world. These are just some references among SENER's activities as a high technology and engineering group.

The European Energy Awards recognize SENER's trajectory in its more than a half-century of activity, where the group has managed to maintain the core values that make up its corporate culture: the commitment to innovation, to quality and to its managerial independence, being innovation the main pillar; technology is the key that allows SENER to attain and maintain a privileged position among the leading global engineering firms.

In the words of SENER's President, Jorge Sendagorta, "SENER feels on solid ground when we have differentiated technological solutions, and this is the reason why we insist on recruiting and developing the talent of our 5,500 highly qualified professionals, mostly engineers, and also keep investing around 6.5 per cent of our income in R&D."
The Engineering Company of the Year award will be exposed at the World Future Energy Summit 2014 that is being held in Abu Dhabi from January 20 to 22, in the booth that the SENER group has during the whole event.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technologyâ„¢, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
