With a month to go before All-Energy 2014, the UK's largest renewable energy exhibition and conference, opens in Aberdeen (Wednesday 21- Thursday 22 May) the international renewables community is busy making its travel plans.

"All-Energy really brings the global world of renewables together," says Event Director, Jonathan Heastie of Reed Exhibitions. "With exhibitors from 20 countries [1]; speakers from 14 countries [2] – including our opening plenary session speaker Bader Saeed Al Lamki, Director of Masdar Clean Energy; and UK Trade & Investment alone bringing in country experts from at least 17 countries [3], we have marvellous international representation at this year's event.

"Four EU initiatives the Atlantic Power Cluster, ERA-NET, ENSEA - European North Sea Energy Alliance and HARVEST Atlantic will also be covered in the conference. The Atlantic Power Cluster is also organising a seminar as one of the programme of associated events which take place on 20 May, the day before All-Energy opens.

"We look forward in a month's time to welcoming our overseas participants, and thousands from all across the UK as well. Free registration is open online. This covers entrance to the major exhibition; the world-class conference looking at all sources of renewable and sustainable energy, and business energy efficiency – and the challenges and opportunities facing the various sectors, and industry as a whole, and the show-floor seminar theatres and Share Fair (which together have well in excess of 350 speakers); and to the Giant Networking Evening (21 May). Registrations are coming in thick and fast from near and far.

"We are looking forward to busy and bustling aisles with people following our twelve subject-specific trails to help them find the exhibits of most interest to them; and a packed conference hall for the opening plenary session with its Ministerial keynotes from Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP, the UK's Secretary of State for Scotland and Fergus Ewing MSP, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, Scottish Government and addresses by other key stakeholders.

"Our "Great Debate" at lunchtime on opening day with Fergus Ewing and Tom Greatrex MP, the UK's Shadow Energy Minister, debating the energy implications of an independent Scotland – chaired by Professor Sir Jim McDonald Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde - is bound to attract a full house. The same will be the case with many of our other conference sessions with presentations from truly compelling and highly knowledgeable experts ranging right across the board from offshore wind to renewables for the farming community; from carbon capture and storage to bioenergy; from hydropower to hydrogen and fuel cells, energy storage and sustainable transport; and from onshore wind to getting a foot on the supply chain for nuclear power; and much more."

Enthusiastic sponsors
All-Energy's key sponsors have been quick to voice their enthusiasm for their involvement with the show. DNV GL's Johan Sandberg, Service Line Leader – Offshore Renewable Energy: "We are delighted to be an All-Energy 2014 sponsor and look forward to sharing DNV GL's 2050 Vision with those attending this event. To mark our 150th anniversary, we have brought together our experts from maritime, offshore oil & gas, offshore wind, and power transmission sectors to develop a vision for how offshore renewable energy can develop in the coming decades. The focus is very much on offshore wind and how it can play a role in the world's energy mix and in combating climate change – we look forward to sharing our vision with those attending the opening plenary session and to take them on a journey into the future."

ABB is sponsoring the four show-floor seminar programmes – offshore wind including O&M (both days); wave and tidal (both days); energy efficiency (21 May) and community energy (22 May). "ABB has long recognised the need to balance the world's ever increasing demand for power with minimum environmental impact," says Stephen Trotter, Division Head of ABB Power Systems UK & Ireland. "That's why we have placed a commitment to renewable energy at the core of our business, especially in creating effective grid connections for onshore and offshore wind farms as well as wave and tidal power schemes.

"The size and scope of the All-Energy event therefore plays a vital role in helping us meet in one place all the key players we need to engage with, including customers and potential customers as well as senior government policy makers and suppliers. In 2013, our sponsorship of the show-floor seminar programme proved to be a particularly effective element within our thought leadership programme, so we are delighted to be continuing the sponsorship for this year."

Registration is sponsored by Bureau Veritas. John MacAskill, Head of Renewables, Europe explains: "Bureau Veritas is a leading global testing, inspection and certification company providing assurance and advice across multiple sectors; we ensure products, projects and assets are safe, compliant, on track, sustainable and performing as required by stakeholders. The renewables industry is still young and the risks are still either significant or uncertain. Bureau Veritas can and does provide guidance and assurance to identify and then mitigate risks for device and project developers and other stakeholders. Bureau Veritas is delighted to sponsor the registration at All-Energy and to welcoming the industry to this leading event, which provides the best possible platform for our Bureau Veritas 20-minute Wind Masterclasses."

Energy efficiency is of course the sensible option' and the Welsh Government is sponsoring the energy efficiency conference session: "As the UK's largest renewable energy event Welsh Government is excited to be a sponsor of the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference in Aberdeen. After successful attendance in 2013, Wales-based companies are making the most of Welsh Government support to showcase their technology expertise and industry services and we look forward to networking with businesses from across the UK and International market with ease under one roof."
