Demeter Power Group Joins The Alliance for Solar Choice

SAN FRANCISCO, May 8, 2014 -- The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) today announced the addition of Demeter Power as a member company. TASC is leading the solar industry's defense against attacks from monopoly utilities who want to stop competition. With bipartisan support for rooftop solar on the rise, even special interest groups like the Koch brothers and ALEC have joined the anti-solar attacks. Other member companies include SolarCity, Solar Universe, Sungevity, Sunrun, and Verengo.

Demeter Power offers third party financing options for commercial distributed generation projects in 27 states across the country, with headquarters in Florida.

"Florida consumers want to be able to choose to lower their energy costs by powering their own buildings, which is only possible in a free and open solar market," said Demeter Power President Michael Wallander. "TASC is now on the ground in Florida to defend consumers' rights to choose solar outside the monopoly utility model."

Recent reports affirm that a "community" solar program from NextEra subsidiary FP&L is nothing more than the greenwashing of a utility-owned power play. As explained on CleanTechnica, "By 'community,' they mean utility-owned. And ratepayers are being asked to volunteer to give an extra $9 per month to support this monopoly power grab."

"It's time for Florida to live up to its Sunshine State nickname," said TASC President Bryan Miller. "Demeter Power's membership represents an important expansion of TASC in the state."

Poll after poll demonstrates overwhelming public support for rooftop solar. For example, recent poll results from Demeter Power's home state of Florida show that broad, bipartisan support for rooftop solar energy and the fundamental solar policy net metering exceeds 75 percent across all key voter groups in the state.

About The Alliance for Solar Choice
The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) advocates for maintaining successful distributed solar energy policies throughout the United States. The organization was formed on the belief that anyone should have the option to switch from utility power to distributed solar power, and realize the financial benefits therein. The rooftop solar market has been largely driven by Americans' desire to assert control over their electric bills, a trend that should be encouraged. TASC Member companies include Demeter Power, SolarCity, Solar Universe, Sungevity, Sunrun, and Verengo. http://allianceforsolarchoice.com
