Sunrun will combine and test OutBack Power's technology consisting of weather-resistant batteries and inverters with home solar systems in both indoor and outdoor environments.
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 20, 2014 -- Sunrun, the largest dedicated residential solar company in the United States, today announced a partnership with OutBack Power Technologies, Inc. to pilot renewable energy storage-based systems for a select group of Sunrun solar customers. OutBack Power is a designer and manufacturer of power conversion systems incorporating energy storage for off-grid and grid-connected renewable energy applications. As part of the pilot, Sunrun will combine and test OutBack Power's technology consisting of weather-resistant batteries and inverters with home solar systems in both indoor and outdoor environments.
"It is now more affordable than ever for consumers to run their homes with clean power, and we strongly believe that the next evolution of solar as a service for our customers is home solar paired with energy storage," said Sunrun's chief operating officer, Paul Winnowski. "With OutBack Power, we will further our commitment to providing customized and affordable home solar that allows customers to be a part of the solution for building a clean, modern grid that provides power when it is needed the most."
Based on results of the pilot, Sunrun plans to offer consumers additional options for when and how they use the solar power from their Sunrun solar system. With energy storage, homeowners who have solar on their rooftop can enjoy clean power during the day and tap stored solar energy to power their homes at night or during rainy or cloudy days when their solar system may be producing less electricity. The program builds upon Sunrun's commitment to providing consumers with clean, less expensive renewable energy customized for their home and lifestyle and OutBack Power's leadership in reliable, off-grid technology.
"Recent developments in utility and government incentive policies have encouraged our partners to look to smart, hybrid systems with energy storage capabilities as the next logical step in expanding their offerings to consumers," said Harvey Wilkinson, general manager at OutBack Power. "OutBack's energy storage-backed systems have earned longstanding confidence from our customers, such as the residential solar company, Sunrun. We know our dependable reputation and high quality products will translate into peace of mind and added value for their home solar customers."

Sunrun pioneered solar as a service, a way for homeowners to go solar without the high upfront cost, and is the largest dedicated residential solar company in the U.S. Sunrun provides end-to-end service for homeowners to choose cleaner, cheaper, solar energy and fix their electric costs for 20 years. The company designs, installs, finances, insures, monitors and maintains the solar panels on a homeowner's roof, while families pay just for the electricity at a lower rate than their current utility. Since Sunrun introduced solar as a service in 2007, it has become the preferred way for consumers to go solar in the nation's top solar markets. Sunrun has deployed more than $2 billion in solar systems and has raised more than $300 million in equity capital. For more information please visit: www.sunrun.com.
