Onyx Renewable Partners, a leader in flexible, creative solutions for the development, finance, construction and operation of large-scale renewable energy projects, today announced the appointment of Daniel J. Onyx Renewable Partners, a portfolio company of global investment giant Blackstone, develops, finances, constructs and operates large-scale solar and wind projects throughout North America, as well as other types of renewable energy projects. With his expertise in finance, De Boer will help to make Onyx an industry leader, by structuring the type of sophisticated, creative deals that have made the founders of Onyx leaders in renewable energy development and resulted in more than 100 megawatts of new renewable energy projects throughout North America.

"The renewable energy sector is growing rapidly, but it needs access to low-cost capital if it is to become a meaningful part of the nation's energy mix," said Matthew Rosenblum, Onyx's founder and CEO. "With our ability to draw on Blackstone's deep capital pool, Onyx is positioned to make an immediate impact on the penetration of renewables in North America. Dan's extensive experience in getting deals done will be invaluable to that effort. We are delighted to have him aboard."

Prior to joining Onyx, De Boer worked in a number of roles for D.E. Shaw & Co., a global investment and technology development firm. As part of the firm's Private Equity Group De Boer executed the financial analysis and due diligence for new acquisitions and worked through the efficient allocation of capital to its portfolio companies. De Boer then helped launch the firm's renewable energy investment arm, D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments, which has provided equity investment to projects and teams across the sector. He also consulted for Cardinal Wind, which assesses financial risk for the wind power industry, where he created company financial models that demonstrate typical wind power plant operating structures and financings.

"Onyx's capabilities, with the expertise of its executive team coupled with the partnership of Blackstone, position the company to quickly become a national leader in renewable energy project development," De Boer said. "The world is in the midst of a shift from an energy economy based predominantly on fossil fuels to a more balanced approach that is focused on clean, renewable energy. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to be able to play a part in this historic transition as a member of the Onyx team."

De Boer has held several leadership roles on corporate and non-profit boards, including as a director for Snikiddy, which creates healthy snack products. Additionally, for the past three years he served as chairman for Jounce Partners, an education non-profit dedicated to rapidly increasing the rate of teacher skill development in urban schools.

De Boer received his bachelor's degree in political science from Yale University. He also holds an MBA degree with honors in both finance and accounting from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
