Smarter Grid Solutions’ Active Network Management Technology Connects 48MW to create the UK’s largest single Actively Managed Wind Farm

Smarter Grid Solutions has been working with SP Energy Networks to connect 48MW at Aikengall Wind Farm, at Dunbar in south-east Scotland. This new connection is the latest delivery from SP Energy Networks’ ARC Project.

Smarter Grid Solutions' Active Network Management (ANM) products are being used as part of SP Energy Networks ‘Accelerating Renewables Connections' (ARC) project in the South East of Scotland. The use of Active Network Management in ARC is fast-tracking the connection of renewables across this area and improving customer service, by managing distribution and transmission constraints.

Colin Taylor, Engineering Services Director welcomed the news stating:

"This exciting deliverable will allow us to meet our obligations to connect renewable generation in a timely and efficient manner for our customers, stakeholders and communities well into the future. This major milestone brings tangible benefits and is an excellent team delivery; I look forward now to commissioning further Actively Managed Connections as part of our business as usual connection solutions."

Active Network Management enables Distributed Network Operators (DNOs) to integrate Distributed Energy Resources (DER). It is the only solution of its kind to use a unique combination of real-time, autonomous and deterministic control to deliver sub-second responses. Five out of six of the UK's DNOs use ANM. In the US, Con Edison, Southern Company and PowerStream are all benefiting from Actively Managed Connections that are transforming the utilisation and resiliency of the grid, and managing connected customers at greatly reduced cost.

Darfon G320 Microinverter

The Darfon G320 is the microinverter solution for today's high-power solar modules. The G320 handles 60- and 72-cell modules up to 350W DC and outputs up to 300W AC. The G320's 3-phase configuration accommodates the electrical distribution systems of most commercial buildings and to reduce, if not eliminate, the need for expensive transformers. The G320 comes in four voltage/phase configurations, so it can be installed in residential, commercial or utility applications.
