KINGSPAN ENERGY COMPLETES SUNPOWER SOLAR INSTALLATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPGRADES FOR CARL ZEISS COMPANY

Unique integrated project reduces energy load of the Companys Training Center by 60 percent

STAMFORD, CT. - Oct. 28, 2015 - Kingspan Energy, a Connecticut-based SunPower commercial partner, is showcasing a unique project that combines multiple energy efficiency upgrades with a high efficiency solar energy solution from SunPower to significantly reduce an existing commercial buildings power load. The project was completed at the Thornwood, N.Y. facility of Carl Zeiss, a 160-year-old optics company known for its leadership in eyeglass lenses and semiconductors. Zeiss chose Kingspan Energy to integrate energy efficiency measures including LED lighting and solar photovoltaics at the companys sales, service, and training center. The combined project, along with a roof upgrade that enhanced the insulation value of the building and made it solar ready, has resulted in a 60 percent reduction in energy load.

"This project has been an example of how existing buildings can be enhanced to a high performance level through an integrated envelope, LED lighting system, and solar energy approach by Kingspan Energy," says Ralph Mannion, president of Kingspan Energy. "We look forward to working on more projects like this in the future to help our customers achieve their comprehensive renewable energy goals."

The core of the project is a 531-kilowatt solar photovoltaic installation on the facilitys roof that uses the industrys most efficient solar panels from SunPower. The solar power system is expected to meet 30 percent of the buildings annual energy needs, and is projected to produce more than 598,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year which is equivalent to taking 87 passenger vehicles off the road.

"All of the projects were professionally run by Kingspan Energy representatives who were attentive to our needs," says Jim Olivo, CFO of Carl Zeiss. Inc. "We are proud to demonstrate Zeisss commitment to creating a greener environment in our community with this project."

Founded in 1846, Zeiss is a leader in the optics and optoelectronics industries with operations in 40 countries. The companys New York solar energy system is representative of a global commitment to sustainability.
