Witherspoon Distillery Powers Operations With Texas Sun & Circular Energy

Engineered to help them harvest power from the big and bold Texas sun, Witherspoon Distillery's new solar energy system designed and installed by Austin-based Circular Energy will help the distillery produce 2.4 million kWh of clean, renewable solar energy over the next 25 years, the equivalent to more than $381,000 dollars in energy savings.

Austin, Texas (November 17, 2015)

Witherspoon Distillerys new facility in Lewisville, Texas is now utilizing renewable solar energy to power the production of their premium handcrafted spirits while minimizing their environmental impact and reducing operating costs. Circular Energy, a national provider of clean energy solutions, based in Austin, TX, designed and installed a 70.4 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar energy system for Witherspoon Distillery in November 2015.

Engineered with the remodel of their new facility in a rejuvenated area in Lewisville, Witherspoons new solar panel installation will allow them to produce 2.4 million kWh of clean, renewable solar energy over the next 25 years, the equivalent to more than $381,000 dollars in energy savings.

"Our team was inspired to find a way to distill high-quality spirits in a more environmentally friendly way. We decided to utilize one of our biggest, most reliable resources - the Texas sun - along with the best local ingredients to create a truly remarkable product," said Quentin Witherspoon, Founder and Master Distiller.

"Anyone can distill spirits, but it takes a different type organization to do so with an eye toward sustainability, and that makes us really proud to put our brand name on every bottle. Were very fortunate we connected with with the Circular Energy team to help us accomplish our solar goals," he added.

The new solar energy system features 220 SolarWorld modules and 4 Solectria inverters. It was financed through a Solar Capital Lease, which works similar to a loan and will allow Witherspoon to spread out the cost of their system over the next 6 years. This method of financing solar has become exceedingly popular over the past two years as it allows a system off-taker, like Witherspoon, to take advantage of all of the state and federal tax incentives available for solar. After the 6 year term Witherspoon will own the system outright and produce their own clean energy free from the sun.

"The distillation process requires a vast amount of power, and is typically done at peak energy times during the day while the sun is shining. Because of this, we at Circular are working with a growing number of breweries and distilleries to provide them with on-site renewable energy generation. We are thrilled to be involved with Witherspoon Distillery right here in Texas, and it is exciting to see the amount of success the new distillery has already seen in its short time being open," said Circular Energys Marketing Director Walter Rumpf.
