POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe celebrates 25 years as Europe's largest power event

Event closes its doors for final time and makes way for Electrify Europe

3rd July, Cologne, Germany - POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe, the leading conference and exhibition for the international power and renewable industries, celebrated its 25th and final with a hugely successful show that saw over 9000 visitors and 430 exhibitors travel to the Koelnmesse in Cologne last week.

This years event opened with highly anticipated keynotes from Dr Frank-Michael Baumann, Managing Director of the Energy Agency North Rhine Westphalia; Mr Carlo Pignoloni, Head of Italy, Iberia, East Europe & North Africa, Enel Green Power; Andree Stracke, Chief Commercial Officer, RWE Supply and Trading, and Kristian Ruby, Secretary General, EURELECTRIC. The speakers offered diverse perspectives on key trends for Europes power industry, including decarbonisation, digitalisation and security of supply.

The Joint Plenary Panel Discussion featured a lively debate between policy makers, industry experts and educators from EnBW, the European Commission, GE, KU Leuven Energy Institute and Siemens. The panellists agreed that digitalisation needs to be embraced to enable more efficient, reliable and safer power generation.

Exhibition highlights included the Enel Knowledge Arena and the Amec Foster Wheeler Global Power Arena, which held free-to-attend presentations, panels and workshops throughout the three-day event.

The show concluded with the Best Paper Awards, which highlighted some the fantastic contributions from across Europes power industry. Michael Lippert, Business Development Manager, SAFT, France was awarded well deserved recognition for the immensely popular integration and energy storage conference track as he took the wining paper. The paper was on Managing Massive Wind Integration In Electricity Grids With Lithium-Ion Energy Storage.

"Another exceptional year and a perfect way to celebrate the events 25th anniversary," says Nigel Blackaby, Conference Director at PennWell. "There have been many deals and strategic meetings throughout the show, which demonstrates value it brings to not only the companies attending, but the industry as a whole."

This years show was also marked by the launch of Electrify Europe, the worlds first event dedicated to the convergence in the power generation and transmission and distribution sectors, driven by digitisation, decentralisation, electrification and customer engagement. The event will replace POWER-GEN and Renewable Energy World Europe, with the inaugural show taking place at the Messe Wien in Vienna, Austria from 19 - 21 June 2018.

"The launch of Electrify Europe has been met with huge support and we look forward to a reinvigorated event next year!" says Glenn Ensor, Managing Director at PennWell.
