EVgo Accelerates with EV Model Introductions to Expand Nation's Largest Public EV Fast Charging Network

2018 Fast Charger Growth: 45% in LA Market, 59% in Bay Area Market

As electric vehicle (EV) automakers launch their 2019 models and announce their plans for 2020-2022, EVgo, the largest public electric vehicle (EV) fast charging network in California and across the U.S., announced today that it has accelerated construction work in progress and will add hundreds of EVgo fast chargers this year in California alone. Building on the network's more than 1000 public fast chargers currently operating across the U.S., EVgo will grow its fast charger count in the top two markets, the San Francisco Bay Area the LA Metropolitan Area, by 59% and 44%, respectively, by year-end 2018.

"EVgo's mission is to enable access to a better way to drive by building a reliable and convenient network of public fast chargers for electric vehicles," said Cathy Zoi, EVgo CEO. "The next two years are critical for transportation electrification as automakers begin deliveries from the $100 billion they are investing to retool for EV manufacturing. At EVgo, we are accelerating our development and construction processes so that by year-end we will deliver fast charger growth of 59% in the San Francisco Bay Area and 44% in our home town of Los Angeles, the two largest EV markets in the U.S."

Enabling electric vehicle use by homeowners, apartment dwellers, ride share drivers as well as medium and heavy-duty fleets, EVgo calculates that its nationwide fast charging network, as of year-end 2018, will annually avoid more than 30,000 metric tons of CO2e and power more than 150 million miles of electric vehicle travel. Due to EVgo's strong investment in California and the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, in 2018 EVgo fast charging reduced curtailment of solar and wind power by several gigawatt-hours, providing system-wide benefits to electricity customers across California in addition to the air quality benefits of transportation electrification.

Supporting its infrastructure investment beyond California, in August, 2018, EVgo was awarded the first Volkswagen environmental mitigation settlement Appendix D grant by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Volkswagen mitigation funding plans are in development in more than a dozen U.S. states. EVgo supports sharing state, regional, local, and utility EV charging infrastructure funding best practices directly and through its trade associations. In that vein, in September, 2018, EVgo joined with allies across the transportation spectrum, to applaud the Climate Mayors Electric Vehicle Purchasing Collaborative launched in September by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. With its rapid growth in gigawatt-hours delivered, EVgo works closely with automobile manufacturing partners, retail partners and property owners who host fast charging in their parking lots and garages, as well as EV rideshare providers and fleet operators to plan EVgo's investment in fast charging infrastructure from Maine to California.
