Wisconsin Companies Win Energy Efficiency Leadership Awards
-Focus on Energy sponsors awards luncheon and conference for leadership in energy efficiency-
OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (October 19, 2005) - Nine Wisconsin companies were honored today for leading the way in designing and building energy efficient, sustainable buildings at the Wisconsin Sustainability & Energy Efficiency (SE2) Leadership Awards luncheon held at the Olympia Conference Center in Oconomowoc.
With buildings accounting for 40 percent of all natural resource consumption, global energy use and waste generated, sustainability and energy efficiency are good business decisions. Not only do sustainable buildings increase in value, they maintain their competitive edge within the marketplace. As a result, increasing numbers of commercial and institutional buildings are being designed sustainably or energy efficiently because they are more economical to operate and can triple a company's bottom line.
The conference and luncheon, sponsored by Focus on Energy, the state's energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative, highlighted high performance in new and existing buildings by awarding those companies that have built sustainably within their respective communities.
Awards were given away in three categories - Excellence, Merit and Special Citation. This year's winners of the Awards of Excellence were The Zimmerman Design Group for the Johnson Controls Brengel Technology Center in Milwaukee and HGA Architects & Engineers for the Karen Peck Katz Conservation Education Center also in Milwaukee. Winners of the Merit award included Engberg Anderson Design Partnership for Alterra at the Lake in Milwaukee, IBC Engineering for Starbuck Middle School in Racine and IBC Engineering for Washington Park Library in Milwaukee.
The Special Citation awards went to T. Wall Properties for the City Center West in Madison, The Zimmerman Design Group for the General Mitchell International Airport Intermodal Transit Center in Milwaukee, the Waukesha County Communications Center and The Sigma Group for the Sigma Group Headquarters in Milwaukee.
The awards were designed to encourage greater collaboration among owners, designers, builders and operators by highlighting the value of projects that enhance the built environment.
