Xantrex inverters installed at 800 kW plant in Spain

Xantrex Technology Inc. today announced that its inverters have been installed by Grupo Enerpal at an 800 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) solar installation in Brazatortas, Spain. This installation is the largest in Ciudad Real, a province of central Spain.

VANCOUVER, B.C., March 27, 2007 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today announced that its inverters have been installed by Grupo Enerpal for a 800 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) solar installation in Brazatortas, Spain. This installation is the largest in Ciudad Real, a province of central Spain, in the southwestern part of the region of Castile La Mancha.

Eight Xantrex GT100E (100 kW) inverters were installed and efficiently convert direct current power from solar panels into high-quality alternating current electricity for delivery to the electrical grid. The installation is running at full capacity and has an equivalent output of approximately 1450 hours of sun light per year, which will provide more than 504.000 Euro (US $670 thousand) in annual revenue.

Solar power is an attractive investment in Spain since the Spanish feed-in tariff at 0.44 Euro per kilowatt - hour (kWh) is higher than the price of electricity from conventional sources. In addition to the economic benefit, this solar plant provides substantial environmental benefits, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1204 tons annually and sulphur dioxide (SOx) gases by 3375 kilograms (7441 lb.).

"We are pleased that the Xantrex GT100E was selected for this 800 kW PV plant in Spain", said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. "Our solar inverters perform extremely well in high temperatures, providing maximum energy harvest in countries like Spain or Italy, and in the state of California, where some of the most productive PV plants are located."

According to José Antonio Gutiérrez Camargo, Director of the Technical Department at Grupo Enerpal, "Xantrex was chosen as a supplier because they have long-term experience in the field and have been developing a high-quality product portfolio, offering technical solutions tailored to meet varying project requirements. Xantrex inverters allow for convenient communication and integration with other components of the PV installation and are highly efficient."

The installation consists of 2256 mono-crystalline modules TSM-175M (Enerpal-Trina) with 175 watts-peak (Wp) power each, divided into four installations of 100 kW, and 2208 mono-crystalline modules TSM-180M with 180 Wp each, also divided into four installations of 100 kW.

Xantrex solar inverters offer high quality, performance, reliability, value, ease of installation, and high power density; making them the preferred choice for an increasing number of renewable energy installers and their customers in Europe. Xantrex GT100E inverters meet both CE and Spain's RD 1663/2000 requirements.

The Xantrex European customer service network, established in Barcelona with a new centre in Madrid, provides installation and commissioning support to Grupo Enerpal, product training to Grupo Enerpal's franchised companies, and a hotline for maintenance service.
