RainTube Wins Innovation Award from Urban Re:Vision

RainTube wins recognition in Re:Construct competition as a potential design element in Re:Vision's prototype sustainable urban space

Jacksonville, OR, November 4, 2008: GLI Systems Inc. of Jacksonville, Oregon, manufacturer of RainTube hyper-green rain water control products, received a Notable Entry Award in one of eight categories of the Urban Re:Visions--Re:Construct competition. The Award was announced at West Coast Green a green building conference held in San Jose, CA on September 25, 2008.

RainTube was selected from a large field of international contestants who submitted innovation ideas to help reinvent the construction of urban communities. Awards were delivered by a panel of five prominent and distinguished judges from the architectural community. Urban Re:Vision is a revolutionary initiative to create the prototype for an innovative sustainable urban community. At the heart of the process is a series of contests to generate visionary ideas for what can and should be included in the design of an actual sustainable urban space. Re:Vision is currently seeking the city and block for the project and is focusing on five urban issues needing innovative solutions: energy, transportation, commerce, community, and construction. Winners of each competition will be recommended for inclusion in the design criteria for the selected site and project. The selected city is to be announced later in the year.

RainTube earlier in the year also achieved a rare Gold Tier Cradle-To-Cradle Certification from MBDC. Cradle to Cradle is THE most important measurement standard for hyper-green products and companies and places GLI Systems and RainTube in an undisputed leadership position at the highest echelons of the environmental products industry.
RainTube has achieved the highest levels of exemplary product design and corporate responsibility, according to MBDC who administers Cradle to Cradle. Internationally recognized as the worlds leading environmental products certification organization, MBDC provides tools to assist in creating ecologically intelligent products and services. Green building, an ecologically sound method of residential and commercial construction, has become a major area of interest and concern among consumers and the building industry worldwide.
RainTube manufactures effective, low-cost, water collection, gutter protection systems and rain water harvesting products made in the USA from 100% post-consumer recycled materials. RainTube helps protect homes, apartments and commercial buildings from water damage from clogged gutters, reduces fire risk from gutter debris (in compliance with new fire prevention building codes), reduces maintenance and promotes cleaner rain water harvesting systems. RainTube was awarded Sustainable Product of the Year in 2007 and that same year also named one of the top ten green building products. Use of RainTube generates LEED points for builders and owners seeking "green" certification for their projects.
Steve Spratt, co-founder of GLI, said "We are excited to be named a part of this revolutionary Urban Re:Vision concept. RainTube is strategically moving forward with new and innovative products for rain water control, collection and reuse. This award and the inclusion of RainTube in the Re:Vision project confirms that the world marketplace is ready for products and new ideas such as ours. The fact that our small organization has been able to elevate the awareness and importance of eco-sustainability in the world theater is a source of great satisfaction to everyone in our company."
