NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., June 1, 2009 — BTU International (Nasdaq: BTUI), a leading supplier of advanced thermal processing equipment for the alternative energy and electronics manufacturing markets, was awarded the 'Industry Choice' International Solar Technology Award. The award was presented during a ceremony at the Intersolar Munich show in Germany.

The International Solar Technology Awards are designed to acknowledge and recognize achievements in the creation and development of solar technology. Emphasis is placed on real-world technical advancements required throughout the supply chain to push solar power toward grid-parity without government subsidies. Each award category was judged by a panel of industry experts and the industry public, through online voting. For the 'Industry Choice' award, the definitive category for solar applications, the popular voting is double-weighted.

"We are thrilled to win such a prestigious award and congratulate our MERIDIAN' In-line Diffusion System team under leadership of Bob Bouchard, MERIDIAN product manager," said Jan-Paul van Maaren, BTU International's vice president marketing. "The MERIDIAN' In-line Diffusion System reduces total cost of ownership over batch processing and offers process control features that can lead to improved cell efficiency. We are receiving positive feedback from our customers, and being recognized by the industry in this way just adds to our excitement."

BTU International's MERIDIAN' In-line Diffusion System features the MERIDIAN' phosphorus coater, which includes key advances such as backside and topside coating and integrated wafer drying. The system can be configured to achieve up to 1500 156-mm wafers per hour. The in-line process offers reduced wafer handling and greater throughput than traditional batch processing. Reduced handling translates into lower breakage rates, improved yield and lower cost of ownership.

BTU offers solar processing equipment for both silicon and thin film photovoltaics. In thin film photovoltaics, BTU's equipment is used for both the CIGS and the CdTe processes. Silicon photovoltaic applications are served by BTU's metallization furnaces and in-line diffusion systems.
