TURBODEN: FIRST HEAT RECOVERY PLANT IN CANADA

Turboden receives the first order for an ORC unit to be installed in North America.

Brescia (Italy) - 13th April 2010 - Turboden, a Pratt & Whitney Power Systems company, with expertise and experience in the design and manufacture of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generation systems, breaks into the North American market with the first order for a modular ORC unit with 1 MWe capacity.

The ORC turbogenerator is also the first Turboden unit in a heat recovery system downstream of a gas turbine. In this installation, the waste heat from the turbine exhaust gas is recovered in a heat recovery boiler and transformed into electrical energy by the Turboden ORC turbogenerator.

The General Contractor of the project is Innovative Steam Technologies (IST); the plant site is located in western Canada, at a Transgas Ltd. Gas Compressor Station, and the start of operation is planned for the end of 2010.

With the one in Canada, the number of Turboden ORC units rises and reaches 13 ORC plants that work on waste heat from industrial processes, internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Five of these units are already working (in Belgium, Austria and Italy) and other 8 are under construction (in Italy, Germany, UK, Canada and Morocco).

Overall Turboden has supplied more than 150 units worldwide; 115 plants are in operation and more than 130 plants are based on utilizing biomass. Thanks to these figures Turboden is market leader in ORC technology.

Turboden ORC units are characterized by a high level of efficiency, reliability, low maintenance costs and ease of installation. In Heat Recovery application, in particular Turboden offers a series of modular ORC units with high efficiency (sizes from 400kW to 4MW). This product line is complemented by Pratt and Whitney Power Systems' PureCycle 280kW ORC unit.
