Schneider Electric introduces the only MV cubicle UL listed for wind farm applications

Schneider Electric today announced the UL-approved DVCAS 38 medium voltage distribution switchgear for transformer substations in wind farms. This new model, designed specifically for the North American market, completes the successful range of products already available in Europe and Asia

DALLAS, TX, May 21, 2010 — Schneider Electric today announced the UL-approved DVCAS 38 medium voltage distribution switchgear for transformer substations in wind farms. This new model, designed specifically for the North American market, completes the successful range of products already available in Europe and Asia, enabling wind operators to set up and operate wind farms with the same high standard for electrical infrastructure worldwide. DVCAS 38 switchgears have been designed as compact units that contain all the necessary equipment for the protection and connection of the transformer of each wind generator to the MV network of the wind farm.

"Schneider Electric blends turn-key solutions, efficient project management and specialized consultancy with co-design capabilities to offer effective and complete electrical infrastructure for wind power solutions," said Herve Mariage, Wind Power Segment Director, Schneider Electric. "The introduction of the DVCAS 38 strengthens Schneider Electric's ability to help customers optimize equipment safety and availability inside wind farms. Additionally, our IEC and now UL-rated DVCAS 38 ensures we can provide standardized solutions in any market, increasing customers' productivity."

The DVCAS switchgears have been specifically tailored to wind farm constraints - purposely designed to be a mere 60 cm, allowing them to pass through the door of a wind turbine. Additionally they can be also installed in wind turbines up to 2000 m above sea level. The DVCAS switchgear range is part of Schneider Electric's comprehensive offer of products designed to work together, ensuring electrical, mechanical, and communication compatibility. DVCAS switchgears benefit from the accumulated experience gathered by Schneider Electric for more than 60 years in the design and manufacturing of MV and HV equipment. Schneider Electric has supplied MV switchgears for more than 450 wind farms globally.

At the end of their life, DVCAS switchgears can be processed recycled and their components recovered, following the directions given by the European legislation regarding end-of-life of electrical and electronic products. The environmental management system followed by Schneider Electric is certified according to the established requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard.

Schneider Electric's DVCAS 36kV and 38kV switchgear are currently available in the USA.
