Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 set to drive sustainable energy growth in the region

Powered by such strong growth, the 2nd annual Clean Energy Expo Asia(CEEA)is back, boasting a 50% increase in exhibition space and new conference tracks to feed into this growing interest in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, as well as smart grid and sustainable mobility solutions.

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, total new investment in sustainable energy worldwide reached $162 billion in 2009, nearly four times of 2004. With $65 billion worth of new financial investment in clean energy already registered in the first half of 2010, some 22 percent up on the same six months of 2009, the market seems to be on an upswing. What is significant is the distinct shift in focus from Europe and North America to Asia-Pacific, with a sharp increase in financial investment from $31.3 billion in 2008 to $40.8 billion in 2009. Some $188 billion in government stimulus packages was also allocated to greening and climate change measures in 15 major economies between the autumn of 2008 and early 2010, with Asia-Pacific accounting for over 45 percent of this spending[1].

Powered by such strong growth in the region, the second annual Clean Energy Expo Asia (CEEA) is back, boasting a 50 percent increase in exhibition space and new conference tracks to feed into this growing interest in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, as well as smart grid and sustainable mobility solutions.

Buoyed by more clearly defined and expanding clean energy policies as well as the global push for climate change, the Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 Trade Fair and Conference expects a strong showing with a 30 percent increase in overall participation and an increase of 20 percent in the number of exhibitors represented across the three-day event.

Held on 2-4 November 2010 at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore, this year's Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 will provide an important knowledge-sharing platform for leading players in the Technology, Services, Finance and Government sectors to address key issues in renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. Jointly organized by Koelnmesse and the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS), CEEA is the closing anchor for the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), which features a week-long calendar of energy-related trade fairs, conferences and dialogues, expected to draw more than 10,000 participants.

Driving the business of clean energy in Asia
Building on the success of and the interest in last year's inaugural Trade Fair, Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 continues to grow from strength to strength. Country pavilions from Brazil, Canada, Europe, Japan and Singapore will showcase the latest in clean energy technologies, services and financing solutions in the key sectors of solar energy, wind, biomass and geothermal. In addition, CEEA will showcase energy-efficient innovations and technologies as well as smart grid solutions.

This year's Japan Pavilion is proof of Clean Energy Expo Asia's position as the premier networking and business platform for sustainable energy in the region. Supported and organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the official Japan Pavilion grew four-fold compared to last year, featuring a total of 16 Japanese cleantech companies and organizations, and occupying over 250 square meters of exhibition space.

"We feel that the Clean Energy Expo Asia Trade Fair and Conference is a very relevant and timely event that offers Japanese companies great synergy with other like-minded organizations in the region. Clean Energy Expo Asia 2009 provided us with an excellent business networking platform and once again, we look forward to another successful event this year. We are confident that Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 will help Japanese companies further develop and expand their business beyond Japan and Asia," Mr. Akihiro Miwa, Director, Business Development & PR, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

With many major car companies adding hybrid and all-electric vehicles to their fleets, the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that expanded production of such vehicles, combined with the purchase incentives available in more and more countries, could put over 5 million such vehicles on the road in the next 10 years[2]. With its finger on the pulse of clean energy trends, this year's CEEA Trade Fair will feature a new Sustainable Mobility Pavilion, with leading Electric Vehicle (EV) players, such as Audi and EV World (featuring BMW and Porsche), showcasing their innovative EV technologies and cutting-edge EV models.

Forging a vision for the future through in-depth dialogue
Developed in consultation with industry partners and multilateral organizations, such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and SEAS, this year's CEEA conference continues to engage key players to address trends in clean energy markets, policies, and financing as well as developments in sustainable energy technology in the Asia-Pacific region.

New to the Clean Energy Expo Asia 2010 Conference is the Sustainable Mobility Roundtable Discussion, which will see industry players, such as the Energy Market Authority, the Land Transport Authority, GE Energy, and EV World, come together to discuss the regulatory evolution and the measures needed to stimulate investment from the public and private sectors in regional and global sustainable mobility markets.

Spread across three days, the conference program will feature sessions on Clean Energy Market Outlook in Asia, Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Technologies, Energy Efficiency, as well as Clean Energy Projects and Financing. It will feature over 100 international speakers, including notable industry experts such as Mr. Dilip R. Limaye, President & CEO, SRC Global Inc., and Senior Advisor, The World Bank; Mr. Michael Liebreich, CEO, Bloomberg New Energy Finance; Dr. Bartosz Wojszczyk, Global Smart Grid Technical Leader, GE Energy; Prof. Joachim Luther, CEO, Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore; and Mr. Michael Kelly, Deputy Managing Director and Director, Market Development World LP Gas Association.

"The days of inexpensive, convenient, abundant, conventional energy sources are nearing an end. Policy changes, forward-thinking technology innovations, cultural changes and significant investment are key requisites for a new, sustainable energy future. Through Clean Energy Expo Asia, we provide a comprehensive platform for organizations, industry players and key stakeholder organizations in the region to come together in order to enact change and drive the transition to alternative energy economies and societies across Asia-Pacific." Mr. Michael Dreyer, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Koelnmesse.

Last year's Clean Energy Expo Asia featured over 70 exhibitors and drew 3,500 participants from 45 countries. For more information on Clean Energy Expo Asia, please visit www.cleanenergyexpoasia.com.
