Renewable energy the "People's Choice".

The WA Sustainable Energy Association congratulates Jim Thomson from Outback Energy Supply as recipient of the "People's Choice" award for 2010 for the invention "Outback Power Pack" on the Grand Final episode of the Australian ABC New Inventors program.

The WA Sustainable Energy Association Inc. (WA SEA) congratulates Jim Thomson from Outback Energy Supply who was last night awarded the "People's Choice" award for 2010 for the invention "Outback Power Pack" on the Grand Final episode of the ABC New Inventors program.

The Outback Power Pack is the first solar and wind power system that is available to be installed on-site with any combination of solar, wind, and diesel, delivered and ready to connect to within a few hours. The innovative wind turbine and solar panel mounting remove the need for expensive excavations, concrete and crane usage, and offers substantial financial savings and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions over previous solutions.

‘Modularisation of renewable energy is critically important as it will reduce installation costs across rural and regional Australia and allow farmers, small remote communities and mine camps, and remote installations to be largely self sufficient on energy from renewable sources,' says Prof Ray Wills, Chief Executive of WA SEA.

‘The technology is also relevant to the growing energy needs of many third world nations - allow energy growth with out additional greenhouse gas emissions, especially Africa, northern India and western China,' says Prof Wills.

Easy monitoring with weather sensors from Lufft

Professional weather sensors form the heart of large solar plants supporting their operation and performance. Lufft was the first manufacturer to combine several sensors in one housing, bringing the largest multiparameter weather sensor family with 19 members into being. Many of them are well-suited for solar site assessment and continuous monitoring. The most commonly used one is the WS600 delivering data on temperature, air pressure, wind, relative humidity and precipitation. Through its open protocol, it can easily be attached to radiation sensors e.g. from Kipp&Zonen. Other models have an integrated Silicon, Second Class or Secondary Standard radiation sensor.
