Natural Power to support three new biomass projects for UK clients
Natural Power has been awarded three new biomass contracts to oversee the feasibility for a brewery in Glasgow, an ice cream manufacturer in Aberdeenshire and a new dairy farm-based system at Barony College in Dumfries.
Leading international renewable energy consultancy group Natural Power has been awarded three new biomass contracts to oversee the feasibility for a brewery in Glasgow, an ice cream manufacturer in Aberdeenshire and a new dairy farm-based system at Barony College in Dumfries.
Once developed, the clients will both own the asset and also benefit from the Feed in Tariff. Natural Power's Biomass Team will be providing technical and project management services for Anaerobic Digestion (AD) systems for each of these developments. Work on the sites will include preliminary site investigations to ascertain the viability of the project focussing on the key areas of concern, namely: fuel, grid, land, technology and project finance. The Barony project will see Natural Power's biomass services extended to site design, tendering and planning.
AD technology functions by breaking down organic matter such as crops, animal slurries and food waste into biogas, which is then combusted to produce electricity and heat. This technology produces low carbon energy and helps divert waste from landfill. The digestate produced as a by-product is an excellent fertiliser and can be used as an alternative to artificial fertilisers.
Speaking about the newly acquired contracts, Dan Gates, Senior Manager of Biomass Services at Natural Power commented: "As we grow our business in line with the rapidly expanding biomass market, these significant contract wins are a testament to the high level of technical expertise Natural Power can bring to clients. Once developed, the projects will be a great demonstration of the significant benefits that biomass and onsite heat/power can bring to communities and local businesses throughout the UK."
