Wolfe Center for the Arts at Bowling Green State University earns LEED Silver certification

Bowling Green, OH – The Wolfe Center for the Arts at Bowling Green State University has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver status by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Rudolph/Libbe Inc., of Walbridge, OH, was general trades contractor for the 97,000-square-foot performing arts building, which includes a state-of-the-art main theater, actors' theater, rehearsal rooms, scene and costume shops, 12 classrooms and performance spaces.
Rising from the ground at a dramatic 6-degree angle inspired by northwest Ohio's glacial history, the metallic-siding and glass building is designed to accommodate Broadway-quality productions and provide students with the best possible education in the performing arts.
LEED is the nation's preeminent program for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The Wolfe Center for the Arts achieved certification for optimized heating and air conditioning performance; control of mechanical and lighting systems; a vegetated open space adjacent to the building that is equal to the building footprint; use of highly reflective pavement; use of grid-source, renewable energy; use of recycled content products; construction waste management; water-efficient plumbing fixtures; use of low emission paint and carpet; and support of alternative transportation through bike racks for cyclists.
"This was a unique project," said Ryan Miller, BGSU project manager for the Wolfe Center. "That we were able to achieve LEED Silver is a testament to all the hard work put in by our design team as well as by the contractors involved."
The building recently won a Society of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Ohio 2012 Design Award in the Newly Completed Buildings category. Rudolph/Libbe received a 2011 Build Ohio Award for the Wolfe Center for the Arts from the Associated General Contractors of Ohio.
The Wolfe Center for the Arts opened in January 2012 and was designed by the international architectural firm Snøhetta.
