Fuel Cell Seminar and Exposition Announces 2012 Conference Chair, Tom Sullivan

Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition----- November 5 - November 8, 2012----- Mohegan Sun - Uncasville, CT

Columbia, SC - (August 8, 2012) - Tom Sullivan, chairman of Proton OnSite, and founder and chairman of the board for Lumber Liquidators and SunHydro, will be the 2012 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition Conference Chair to be held in Connecticut later this year.

Sullivan bought Proton, the world's leading supplier of on-site gas generators utilizing Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology, in 2008. Since then, he opened the first SunHydro fueling station in Wallingford, Conn., which provides hydrogen to fuel cell cars using water and sunshine.

"I firmly believe that hydrogen fuel cells provide the path to clean, reliable energy, so it's an honor to chair a conference that brings together people who share this vision and are committed to advancing the industry," Sullivan said. "This year's Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition will give attendees a valuable opportunity to share best practices and learn about advances in researching, developing and applying hydrogen and fuel cell technology."

Fuel Cell Seminar and Exposition is the premier meeting place for the fuel cell industry. Over four days, the Seminar hosts approximately 1000 attendees and features more than 200 presentations from around the world. Presentations will cover utility, residential, vehicle and portable uses of hydrogen and fuel cells in addition to discussions on the challenges in costs, fuels, storage, reliability, lifetime and adoptability.

The Seminar offers the largest number of technical papers, the most exhibits and the best coverage of the latest technical advances in the hydrogen and fuel cell, clean energy field-both domestically and abroad.

Fuel cells are a clean and renewable power generation technology that has been around for many years. Fuel cells store energy differently than batteries. Unlike batteries, you will never see a discarded fuel cell that has gone dead, been discarded, or taking up space in a landfill.

In a growing number of distribution centers, fuel cells in forklifts reduce the operating cost of material handling operations and increase productivity. The payback period can be as short as two years. The same types of fuel cells can be desk-sized and used as backup power or wallet-sized and used as portable power in military applications. The most recognized application of fuel cells are in passenger cars, buses and transport vans.

Proton OnSite's proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology provides the needed hydrogen for a variety of industries and applications including laboratories, semiconductor manufacturing, utilities and energy storage. Proton OnSite's technology is also fueling commercial and military vehicles across the U.S., in a variety of environments.

This year alone, Proton OnSite's equipment has been installed in three hydrogen fueling stations, including an automobile fueling station in Freiburg, Germany and a bus fueling station at the Flint Mass Transportation Authority in Flint, Mich. The same electrolyzer fuels the military's fleet of fuel cell vehicles on the historic Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam in Hawaii.

In addition to chairing Proton OnSite, Sullivan is a successful entrepreneur who founded Lumber Liquidators, the largest U.S. retailer of hardwood floors, and SunHydro, the world's first chain of privately funded hydrogen re-fueling stations.

Sullivan is also the benefactor of the Proton Onsite Scholarship program. Now in its third year, the national scholarship has awarded nearly $2 million to outstanding students on the basis of merit, financial need and the individual's intent to pursue a four-year undergraduate degree in the field of science and technology. This year, the program awarded three high school seniors with $100,000 each.

The 2012 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition will be held November 5th - November 8th at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The 2012 conference expands on the mission to advance global energy, environmental, and economic benefits offered by fuel cell and hydrogen technologies. Featured activities will include educational short courses, receptions and world class technical and market focused conference tracks.
