New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to Deliver Keynote Address at Advanced Energy 2012 Conference

- Bloomberg Joins Highly Esteemed Group of Government, Business and Academic Luminaries Scheduled to Speak at Leading Clean Energy Event -

NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 22, 2012) – The Advanced Energy Center (AERTC.org) at Stony Brook University, a partnership of academic institutions, energy providers and industrial corporations dedicated to innovative energy research, education and technology deployment, today announced that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will deliver a keynote address at the organization's Advanced Energy 2012 conference. The conference takes place from Tuesday, October 30 through Wednesday, October 31; Bloomberg will deliver his keynote on the second day of the conference.


Dedicated to the advancement of clean energy, Bloomberg has launched several initiatives throughout his tenure as mayor to improve the environment and combat the impact of global climate change, from establishing laws to make buildings more energy efficient to replacing taxis and NYPD patrol cars with hybrid vehicles. Bloomberg's efforts to improve sustainability extend to his company Bloomberg LP, the world's leading financial news and information company. The organization has emerged as a global leader in sustainability, committed to reducing its carbon footprint through energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources.

In addition to Bloomberg, attendees of Advanced Energy 2012 will have the chance to learn from some of the world's most acclaimed leaders in government, industry and academia who are responsible for influencing the future of clean energy and green technology.

Other featured speaking sessions at Advanced Energy 2012 include:

· Yacov Shamash, Dean of Engineering and Vice President of Economic Development, Stony Brook University, will launch the conference and deliver a welcome address during a continental breakfast.

· Following this session, Robert Hallman, Deputy Secretary for Energy and the Environment, New York State; Gil Quiniones, President and CEO, New York Power Authority (NYPA); and Frank Murray, President and CEO, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will participate in a panel discussion, "The New York Energy Industry Summit."

· Robert B. Catell, Chairman, Advanced Energy Center & NYS Smart Grid Consortium, will host the lunch session on the first day, which will include speeches by David Sandalow, Under Secretary of Energy (Acting), U.S. Department of Energy; Allan Schurr, Vice President, Strategy & Development, IBM Global Energy & Utilities Industry; and Dr. Daniel Gerstein, Deputy Under Secretary for Science & Technology, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, the lunch session will feature a keynote address from Gil Quiniones, as a representative of New York State.

· On the opening session of the second day, attendees will hear keynotes from Dr. Sam Aronson, Director, Brookhaven National Laboratory; Dr. Harriet Kung, Associate Director of Science for Basic Energy Sciences, U.S. Department of Energy; and Ken Daly, President, New York Business, National Grid.

· During the lunch session of the second day, Bloomberg, as well as Dr. Samuel Stanley, President, Stony Brook University; Dr. Nancy Zimpher, Chancellor, State University of New York; Paul Browning, President and CEO, Thermal Products, GE Energy; and Daniel Yergin, Founder, IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates, will share their thought leadership on the future of clean energy.
