Dan Rapp Holds 20 Years of Technology Experience In Leading U.S. Companies, Including FamilySearch, Whizbang! Labs, IBM, and Novell

PROVO, Utah--Vivint Solar, a leading provider of simple, affordable solar solutions, today welcomed Dan Rapp as the company's new chief technology officer. As CTO, Rapp will oversee Vivint Solar's technology strategy and software development, including the creation and implementation of advanced data reporting and an enhanced customer interface.

"Dan brings a tremendous amount of experience to Vivint Solar," said Tanguy Serra, president of Vivint Solar. "As CTO, Dan will play a pivotal role in creating a technological infrastructure that will significantly scale the business as Vivint Solar continues its nationwide expansion."

Professionally, Rapp has an extensive background in software development, including data communication software, distributed systems, cryptographic software, search engines, machine learning algorithms, and network analysis. He has led teams, managed software projects, and overseen organizational changes.

Previously, Rapp was vice president of the research, user experience and web development group at FamilySearch, the world's largest free genealogy organization dedicated to helping people find their ancestors. In that capacity, he was responsible for improving the FamilySearch experience including large system scale and performance, handwriting recognition, language processing, and network analysis. Rapp also oversaw the UX and web development groups. Rapp joined FamilySearch in 2002, as the architect and principal engineer for search engine development.

Prior to joining FamilySearch, Rapp spent three years as a distinguished engineer at Whizbang! Labs, where he held many technical leadership roles, primarily in the areas of distributed processing and domain specific search. Prior to Whizbang! Labs, Rapp worked for 12 years at Novell and IBM in various management and technical leadership roles. Rapp earned a bachelor's degree in applied physics from Brigham Young University.

"As one of the fastest growing residential solar companies, I'm excited to join Vivint Solar," Rapp said. "It's great to be part of an organization that is committed to bringing affordable solar options to U.S. households, while also reducing our nation's carbon footprint."

Customers save money on energy through Vivint Solar's power purchase agreement (PPA), in which customers agree to purchase the power that the solar panels generate at rates significantly lower than their typical power bill. In exchange, Vivint Solar designs, installs, monitors, and maintains the system for free, allowing customers to enjoy the benefits of renewable solar energy without a large, up-front investment.

Vivint Solar works with the leading solar vendors in the industry, including microinverter provider Enphase Energy and mounting system supplier Zep Solar. Vivint Solar keeps its service functions in-house, offering teams of experienced field and customer care representatives. This combination of superior products and industry-leading service ensures Vivint Solar customers receive the best experience possible throughout the entire relationship.
