World Bio Markets Brazil 2013 - 17-18 September 2013, Sao Paulo

BRAZIL'S BIOFUELS AND BIO-BASED CHEMICALS MARKETS TO CELEBRATE EXCELLENCE AT THE BRAZILIAN SUSTAINABLE BIO AWARDS

25 June 2013 – Green Power Conferences announces the 2013 Sustainable Brazilian Bio Awards are to take place during the 3rd World Bio Markets Brazil Conference and Exhibition at the Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo on the 16-18 September 2013.

The Awards celebrate excellence in the Brazilian biofuels and bio-based chemicals community and will take place during the Evening Cocktail Reception at the end of the conference on 17 September.

Two prestigious awards will be presented this year; the ‘Brazilian Bio Innovation of the Year Award' and the ‘Brazilian Bio Deal of the Year Award'. Presenting these awards will be the ‘Father of the Ethanol Car', Mario Garnero, Founder & Chairman of merchant bank BrasilInvest, former chair of the National Automakers Association (ANFAVEA) and National Confederation of Industries (CNI).

The excellence already achieved in these industries can only continue to build and gather momentum with the recent announcement of President Dilma Rousseff's investment program worth 6.1 billion reais ($2.5 Billion) which has on part been earmarked for biofuels technology research and development (Bloomberg). We have already seen major strides forward by the bio-based industry but these additional funds will provide the incentive needed for Brazil's bioeconomy to become a centre for excellence for biotechnology research and development.

Some companies are already taking the lead and have made impressive announcements over the past year that could put them in the running to become Awards winners at the 2nd annual Brazilian Sustainable Bio Awards.

On the 1st February 2013, Amyris announced its first shipment of the specialty bio-based chemical biofene from its plant in Brotas, Brazil. This product will be delivered to key clients based in Brazil and shows the viability of similar projects in delivering bio-based products at commercial scale to market.

Brazilian based Raizen has said that it will have its cellulosic ethanol plant in Piracicaba should reach commercial scale production in 2014 (Reuters) and the world's largest bio-based polymer producer Braskem which is based in Brazil has recently announced the expansion of its portfolio of renewable products to include a new line of green low-density polyethylene.

In addition to this, the Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory (CTBE) has recently signed a pact with Rhodia to jointly develop bio-based chemicals using sugarcane and Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira (CTC) is looking to boost sugarcane productivity by 50%.

Amyris, Raizen, Braskem, CTBE and CTC are all sending senior level representatives to speak on their most recent accomplishments at the 3rd World Bio Markets Brazil conference and exhibition and they will also be in attendance at the Brazilian Sustainable Bio Awards.

Last year's Award winners included SEE ALGAE Technology, Grupo JB, GraalBio, Beta Renewables, DSM, and Novozymes.
