Solar PV Atlas: solar energy in harmony with nature

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) has partnered with First Solar, Fresh Generation and 3tier to prepare a report entitled "Solar PV Atlas: solar energy in harmony with nature"

The "Solar PV Atlas: solar energy in harmony with nature" shows through several cases that less than 1% of the floor space would be required to meet 100 % of the projected demand by 2050, if only the production of photovoltaic electricity (PV) should be sought after.

A meeting was held in Rabat on October 22, at which representatives of WWF and First Solar have presented the Solar PV Atlas report established by the WWF, which highlights the very limited environmental impact of PV resource, while emphasizing the role of civil society in the development of solar energy in Morocco. The purpose of the meeting was to join the efforts of WWF in Morocco for a better understanding of one of today's major national issues: what means a large scale production of electricity through solar PV, its economic, environmental and social advantages. The main aim it to later adopt and own this, already, very popular source of energy in the world.
WWF is currently working in Morocco on several projects, in particular on aspects related to the integrated management of water resources and the capacity of civil society.

In 2008, WWF has promoted and, since, leads a platform of twenty Moroccan NGOs called the "Working Group on the European Neighbourhood Policy" (ENP WG Morocco WWF). Its presence throughout the Moroccan territory ensures the representation of a wide range of civil society. One of its activities is the advocacy role of civil society in policy related to water, environment and sustainable development, in which the energy is a critical issue on a national, regional and international level.

The meeting was also based on First Solar, which deployed 8.000MW PV plants in the world on the basis of advanced PV technology, so-called "thin layer", and which is very active in the country.

Although known for decades for use on a small scale in remote areas, solar photovoltaic (PV) now represents a competitive and abundant alternative, especially in Morocco, where the electricity comes largely from fossil fuels. Solar photovoltaic is a new solution that provides key advantages, including independence from fuel prices, diversification of the energy mix, a very small CO2 footprint, a short energy payback time, and low use of the national area.

S-5!® PVKIT™ 2.0 Solar Rooftop Solutions

The concept of combining PV arrays with standing seam metal roofing is growing-for good reasons. Metal roofs have a life expectancy of more than 40 years. Shouldn't the mounting system last as long? With S-5! zero-penetration attachment technology and PVKIT 2.0, the solarized metal roof is the most sustainable system available -and without compromising roof warranties! PVKIT 2.0 is the also the best solution for attaching PV modules directly to any exposed fastener metal roof.
