REC Group Tapped by Melink to Power Largest Commercial Solar Rooftop Project in Midwest United States

The system is capable of generating 4.292 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power nearly 400 average U.S. households for a year and offset the equivalent of 2,722 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

SAN FRANCISCO ‹ September 23, 2014 ‹ REC Group, a leading global provider of solar energy solutions, announced today that its photovoltaic (PV) panels power the largest commercial rooftop solar system in the midwestern United States. The recently commissioned 3.18-megawatt (MW) Rockville Solar II project in Indianapolis features 12,264 260-watt REC Peak Energy Series PV panels. The system is capable of generating 4.292 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power nearly 400 average U.S. households for a year and offset the equivalent of 2,722 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

The project was developed, designed, and constructed by Melink Corp. on a 600,000 square-foot roof atop a warehouse owned by Equity Industrial Partners LLC. Financed by a combination of tax equity investment, sponsor equity and debt, the grid-connected system also takes advantage of the feed-in tariff offered by local utility Indianapolis Power & Light (IP&L).

³In its biggest rooftop PV installation yet, Melink chose REC duty-free panels for their high quality and bankability to ensure the profitability of the project,² said Arndt E. Lutz, senior vice president of REC Group and managing director of its North American business. ³Commercial solar in the U.S. is growing at a double-digit pace this year, according to GTM Research. We believe the sector has tremendous upside potential and will continue to be a strong component of our business.²

³Rockville Solar II is the fourth commercial project where we have installed REC panels,² said Jeremy Chapman, general manager of Melink Solar. ³On the basis of our ongoing relationship and the overall cost and performance benefits we¹ve seen from using REC products, we look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.²

In addition to building momentum in the U.S. commercial solar sector, REC has scored several recent successes in the residential and utility segments, including significant PV panel supply deals with SolarCity and Sunrun as well as a 85MW agreement with a major engineering, procurement and construction firm working on utility-scale projects.

REC Group will be exhibiting its REC Peak Energy Series panels in Booth 357 at the Solar Power International show in Las Vegas, October 21-23, 2014.
