Hollaender Speed-Rail Structural Fittings Anchor San Rafael Airport Solar Photovoltaic System

CINCINNATI, OH (October 23, 2014) – San Rafael Airport, a private airport north of San Francisco, has added a large photovoltaic installation to the roofs of 49 of their existing aircraft hangars.


Bob Herbst, Manager of San Rafael Airport, saw the opportunity for a photovoltaic installation and developed an agreement with PG&E for a Feed-In-Tariff program, the first of its kind for PG&E. Using outside consultants, the design for a 1.2 MW installation came to life.

One key element of the design is a pipe racking system using Hollaender Speed-Rail structural fittings, manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio by Hollaender Manufacturing Company. The PV racking system used almost 8,000 Hollaender Speed-Rail fittings of various configurations. #46 base flanges were used to mount to the metal roofs and #5E straight tees and #17 cross bracing tees were used to connect to and support 1 " IPS galvanized steel pipe.
