ELSTER TO SHOWCASE INTEROPERABLE END-TO-END METER DESIGN AT EUROPEAN UTILITY WEEK 2014

Elster will be exhibiting their full value-chain solutions, designed for consistent performance in challenging utility environments

Mainz-Kastel, Germany, 28 October 2014 — Elster will be demonstrating its range of end-to-end smart grid solutions at the forthcoming European Utility Week 2014, booth 1.A02. Addressing single- and multi-utilities, Elster's offerings span the full value-chain from end-to-end, yet each component is interoperable by design to offer maximum flexibility to utilities.

As governments around Europe draw closer to full-scale smart meter roll-outs and consider the broader future of the smart grid, utilities need solutions that are both cost-effective and future proof. Elster can provide a one-stop shop for utilities' smart grid evolution by designing end-to-end solutions that meet their specific market requirements. At the same time, Elster also designs each component to be fully interoperable. This means utilities can save both on initial outlay by maximising use of existing infrastructure, and by allowing for vendor competition for each component. Moreover, utilities are future-proofed, as they will not need to replace entire systems if standards change.

‘As the smart grid roll-out hots-up, utilities are going to face a bewildering array of choices every step of the way,' explains Kim Nørgaard, Global Head of Solutions, Elster. ‘For us, it's important to be able to say "we can do it all for you - completely - end-to-end" but to do so without locking them into buying everything from Elster'.

‘Even better,' he adds, ‘where utilities do opt to pull in some components from other sources, we can integrate them into the system. It's difficult for companies to be their own system integrator - we have the expertise to help and do this.'

European Utility Week follows a productive period for Elster, featuring a number of high-profile client wins, details of which are available on Elster's website. Elster will be displaying some of the technology used in these implementations at their stand, 1.A02.

‘It's been a good year for us.' says Kim Nørgaard, Global Head of Solutions, Elster. ‘We've been very pleased with our success. However, we are looking more toward the future. Utilities are still only at the start of a long smart grid journey, and we're looking forward to meeting them at European Utility Week and showing how we can help simplify that.'
