PowerOasis Integrates Panasonic HIT Technology In Resilient Power Solution

Panasonic's high efficiency solar panels part of hybrid solution Helping to power critical communications in Northern Europe

LONDON - September 24th, 2015 - Panasonic today announced that its high efficiency HIT solar technology has been integrated into PowerOasis resilient hybrid power solution. The PowerOasis solution incorporating Panasonics HIT N245 solar module, is now powering a critical communications network in Northern Europe.

Centered on PowerOasis cyber secure intelligent energy management platform, the resilient hybrid power solution reduces generator run hours and maximizes fuel savings, by maximising the utilization of energy supplied by PV modules and deep discharge batteries.

"Given the significance of this communications network in Northern Europe, were very proud to have our HIT technology play a key role in its operation," stated Daniel Roca, Senior Director of Business Operations at Panasonic. "Since we launched the HIT module line, it has become a market leader in module quality and performance reliability, recording a warranty claim rate of 0.0038 percent across 3 million modules deployed across Europe. It was therefore ideally suited to be part of this hybrid solution."

The project featured the unique challenge of constructing multiple solutions in areas of extreme geographical isolation and harsh climate conditions. Some sites were only accessible by helicopter, making the parameters of the solar solution to be integrated very narrow. Panasonics N245 HIT module matched the fundamental product requirements of being extremely reliable, lightweight and compact.

"When designing the resilient hybrid power solution for this critical communications network, we identified a need to incorporate a solar module with world-class reliability that would be required to produce high solar output in extremely harsh conditions," said Bruce Tuch, vice president of engineering at PowerOasis. "Because our intelligent energy management platform is hardware agnostic, we had significant freedom in selecting a suitable PV array supplier. After analysing the current technologies in the market, Panasonics HIT module was the standout product for this solution."

This year, Panasonic is celebrating 40 years of solar cell development and manufacturing experience. The company marked the milestone by launching its much-anticipated battery storage technology at the recent Intersolar Europe exhibition and conference. Panasonic's battery storage product, which features the companys long-established, high-performance lithium-ion batteries, is the only major storage solution with components manufactured by one brand.
